How to improve your historical ranking?

Do you mean the final score or the rank you get when the guy hits the bell? To a large extent they are the same. You want to get as much land as you can and have a large number of citizens.

The faster you do those things the better. Keeping the people happy does help, but not a big deal.

if you are talking about that thing with the lightbulbs on it that you hit at the end, as far as you know you cannot get it to the top on the lower levels. on the higher levels if i win i hit the top ... i think every time.

Is there a screenshot or a list of all the historical rankings? I don't think I've ever made it all the way to the top and I'm wondering what's there.

I don't think the level has any affect on the history ranking. You can get magnifico at all levels.

I always figured that the ranking was based on a bunch of things like how much culture I developed, wonders, structures, pop, lack of disease and pollution, reaction of other civs - but it seems more random to me lately.

I would win and get a mediocre ranking, but recently I had a game where I was a war pig. I attacked at will and leveled cities and nations - all who stood in my way. "I built me a bomb and dropped it on every %$@#$%^ that got in my way".

And I got the second highest score - go figure.
