how to instigate a war between other civs

What about war weariness? I feel guility about having citizens starve to death (I read that to combat it just make all unhappy citizens entertainers). Especially cause it's only one or two grains of food per turn it can be more than 20 years till one citizen starves...

no, you take all the food out, not just the unhappy citizens. so you usually starve one citizen per turn. but sometimes even that is not fast enough! :vampire:

feel guilty? they are not my citizens; if i don't 'take care' of them, they'll flip and i'll lose my troops. the existance of such traitors is a complete waste of oxygen. kill them all. :sniper:

war weariness? stay in depotism, and have small cities might help. ww hasn't been a big problem for me.

i thought this thread is about how to instigate wars; i don't think anyone gives a crap about ww when they are in the mood for war.

Yeah, well, war weariness is a factor to consider when and if you want to instigate a war. It all fits, doesn't it?

Flip from military force? Or what?

I'd rather take Communism than Despotism b/c corruption and waste are only a problem far away from the capital. But Democracy is the best.

yes, hbdragon88, it all fits. specially when you are in democracy, then you really need to worry about ww. i like democracy too, when i am shooting for space victory. also, i admit that it's the best govt for the building up purpose.

if a city flip, you lose the troops you use to garrison that city.

communism is cool too. but you can't have as many troops for free though.

ummm what? you get more free in a communism. (If this was what you were trying to say, you were a bit ambiguous). Communism is the best government available in my opinion, especially for war.

Bob & Mephisto-

Niether communism nor despotism automatically gets more troops 'for free'

Despotism is 4/city, whatever the size of city.
Communism is 2/town, 4/city(size7-12) and 8/metro
(same as Monarchy)

So with a large number of towns, you'll get more in despotism.
If you haven't got any metropolii you'll get more free in despotism too

But with a fair number of 13+ cities, communism gets more free units

Yes, it is very painful to watch people starve. However, the quickest way to end starvation is to reestablish political control in the conquered city. First garrison strongly. Even in large cities, resistance will end in 1-2 turns. Also, let the mayor do his job.

All the Groucho's are not really entertainers. They are the unemployed who search the rubble for lost loved ones. They are the young men and women who inhabit burned out street corners, telling and retelling stories of the traumas they just experienced. After a short period of time, they will continue on with their lives and be productive members of society. This is the best we can do -- at least until someone discovers a method of transporting food from one town to the next. (Maybe we could load grain bags onto our tanks? I'll mention this to the scientific advisor.)

You are not starving people. You are saving them.

(By the way, even in the 21st century, people starve in war zones. Indeed, war is the most common cause of world hunger.)

mad, you are right! i haven't built hospital in a while, so i thought i got more free troops out of despotism.

zachriel, heavy garrison may not work sometimes. i had very painful experiences. the worst one was i lost 22 units b/c dahli flips. alright, i admit 3 of them were cannons, still that's a lot of units to lose in one flip. so now i kind of have flippingphobia.:)

In the current patch, there is an exact number required to completely prevent a flip. First, count the number of effective cultural resistance; one for each foreign national and one for each tile overlap. For complete safety, you need two for each effective resistor, double that if in resistance.

Avoid garrisoning in an unsafe location.

whoa! i didn't know that, thanks for the information.:goodjob: now i feel stupid losing all those units.

what do you mean by tile overlap though, don't all the newly conquered cities shrink to 9 tile size immediately? where's the overlap?

also, even if there is no resistance, cities could also flip back as long as you are waring their motherland, don't they? could you do something about that too?

ok, i just saw the f&q, so no worry. still thanks for pointing that out though.

I figured out the best way to stop a citizen from starving is to change the production to a worker. It removes one citizen, so it helps a lot.

Heh, wars are hard. I garissoned a Mech Infantry in a city. An Egyptian Mech Infantry invaded the city and captured it! And I thought that you have to beat every unit to capture it, right?
