When I change the rules in the civ3mod.bic files to allow irrigation on the hills, the program actually let my workers to start irrigating the hills (which is something that can be done in Civ2).

However, when the irrigation is done the tile seems to change into something funny  The improvement on the tile such as rails is still there but the tile no longer look like a hill  And any further work (such as mining) is no longer possible on that tile.

When I open my city screen.......the tiles is now producing only shield with no food or trade  But amazingly the tile is actually producing some 5.9million shield

Perhaps I have accidentally come across an unknow bug?? :king:

I would still want to be able to irrigate those dang hills though. This is actually realistic as padi is planted on hills in asia!!

I changed the rules with CivEdit so that irrigating hills added one food. Everything worked fine for me: correct food, shield calcs and all graphics looked fine. I could even mine the hills after I got the irrigation where I needed it.

Only problem was then my tech tree stopped working, as it does when you change ANY rule. :crazyeyes

MC- is that really true?! that the tech tree stops working when you change any rule in the editor?!?!

what is it good for then if it hobbles the game?!! jeez!

This will be fixed in the patch, the workaround for the time being is to backup your civ3mod.bic file and then replace it with the mod you want to play, then going in and starting a new game as usual.

For some reason when the game thinks you're loading a mod, the hotspots for clicking on the science advisor get set to zeroes, so you can click all you want and nothing will happen. You can still select technology via the "What shall we research next" pop-up, however.

If the game doesn't know it's a mod, it'll run normally.

Also, no art was done for irrigation on hills, so it'll look pretty bad, but it should work properly.

I agree with Don on editing the mod file. As long as the file is called civ3mod.bic the tech tree remains fine.:)

But I still don't understand why my irrigated hill square gives me 5.9million shield instead of the additional food that I wanted:confused:

hmmm...perhaps it was because I do the irrigation over a tile that was already mined (I change the rules towards the end of a game in progress, by that time my worker is already working at the fastest rate :D )

By the way, is there a way to solve the additional 1 food problem ? (city grow due to +1 food then go to starvation due to -1 food  ) I thought the feature in Civ2 where a city can actually deliver the extra food to another was a great feature and now this problem of city growing and shrinking ala Civ1 is back again??

And those fools in the starving city are actually having WLTKD

I tried irrigating the hills again last night and it works!!

It seems that it only causes problem when you try to irrigate a hill which already has a mine and railroad:p

If Dan ever see this post...why is it that 2 food on an irrigated hill never become 3 when I build a rail but if there are 3 food it will become 4 with the rail ?

This is not consistant with plains as an irrigated plain gives 2 food and 3 with a rail.

The patch, the patch, we cry!
