How to play as the Inca?

I recently noticed on the "CITY.TXT" file that the Inca civilization was there along with a list of Inca cities. My question is, how do I put them in the game? I assume i'd have to remove one civilization to replace them, but how do I go about removing one civilization (say, for example, the Vikings) and replacing them with the Inca?

Oh, and if it makes a difference, I have the Mac version of Civ 2.

Oh, and if it makes a difference, I have the Mac version of Civ 2.

I made a backup copy of rules.txt before I edited anything, just incase I messed something up.
1) Move the civ data from rules.txt you want to replace under the incas

Saladin, ..., 0, 5, Arabs, Arab, 1, 0, 1, 4, Ayatollah, Ayatollah, 2, Sultan, Sultana
Atawallpa, ..., 0, 1, Incas, Inca, -1, 1, 1,
Canute, Gunnhild, 1, 3, 3, Vikings, Viking, 1, 1, 0, 1, Warlord, Warlord

that was if you want to re add them later it will make it easier.

2) copy the inca data and paste it over the data of the vikings.

3) change the 1 in the first set of 2 numbers to 3 so the incas will be blue like the vikings you took out. (not sure if it is necessary or not to do this)

4) in order for the city names to function correctly you have to add a number for city type to that data so after the set of 2 numbers (0, 3,) add 0,

here's what I added for mine
Atawallpa, ..., 0, 3, 0, Incas, Inca, -1, 1, 1,

After this they will be playable in game and as you build cities it will use the default list from city.txt

You can also add a female ruler name if you edit the ... to something else, or add different titles for different government types by adding the appropriate data to the end. For example I copied the chief/great chief from the sioux and added it to the end of the incas 1, Chief, Chief, 2, Great Chief, Great Chief
the 1 refers to despotism 2 refers to monarchy, so in despotism you get the title chief and monarchy you get the title great chief. You can make yours out to be whatever you wish. One of the things I liked most about this game how customizable it was.

Are there any other hidden civs in Civ II with information there to just copy over? Or pretty much just have to make your own custom race to get others?

There is also data to play as the Arabs in rules.txt and city.txt, In order to do that you would just need to follow the above direction but instead of using the Incas to copy over an existing tribe you would use the data for the Arabs.

You can also make a completely custom civ, I just made one to see what all would need to be done.

In rules.txt you write your custom data over an existing tribes data
My name is Daniel so I used my name(real original I know but for the sake of making it easier).

Daniel, Danielle, 0, 7, 0, Daninites, Daninite, 0, 0, 0,

You can also change the last 3 0's to affect how the computer will play with them. First one being how they attack, second how they expand, third how civilized they are. There is a little bit about it above that section of the rules.txt if you want to dabble with it.

Next step is to go to city.txt and somewhere on there add this,
@DANINITES
Dan
Danny
Daniel
Danielle
Dansylvania
D
@STOP

Then the game will use those as city names, as long as it is between @the plural name of your civ and @STOP. Always for the first line use the plural form of your civilization's name. If you made the Canadians for example it might look like this.

Daniel, Danielle, 0, 7, 0, Canadians, Canadian, 0, 0, 0,

then at cities.txt you would need to do this
@CANADIANS
Ottawa
Montreal
Quebec
Toronto
Winnipeg
Edmonton
Vancouver
Victoria
Halifax
Fredericton
Regina
@STOP

When you are all done with that you should be able to use your own custom designed civ. You should always make a backup copy of any files you edit too just in case, I have never needed them personally but I do feel much better knowing they are there.
