How to translate

Is there already a Dutch translation available?

I don't know. All I can say is that the catalan translation is going to be released this month (or probably in the first days of september)

Just that, I would like to start on it, but so as it seems many others have also started. Maybe someone finished it. Or maybe they could send me parts of their work so that it would give me a head-start in translating. No need to re-invent the wheel, right? It's been a while since a translated Civ. I did translate Civ3, except for the Civilopdia.

What about doing the same that hungarians did? You make a wiki website and you upload there every single english tag, so anyone who wants to cooperate can go to that site and translate some tags. Doing it alone takes lots of time (I've started in november and now I'm finishing the work).

Please elaborate...Sounds good, but don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. Maybe an URL would help? But thanx for the replies so far and thinking beyong your project

Indeed. That's certainly a good idea. I've to look into that Wiki system..... Would be a perfect tool for this.

Well, maybe someone could assist? Maybe someone can join in and create a wiki website. I've tried, can get a wiki site. But in order to get files on them that can be translated the way the Hungarians did? I really do not know how. Pity..... Maybe another Dutch Civ-Fanatic could set it up the get this project started (again). If the system is in place I really wouldn't mind putting in my two cents.

I'm making a Swedish translation for Civilization IV. But I'm replacing the text in English tags with Swedish text...

Have just started so if anybody could help me to really get unique Swedish tags that wíll be good, because I can't understand how to do that...

Hi Gurra09!

Nice to see another translator here. Well, all you got to do is add the swedish tags in the XML files. I pretty simple to do. You take (for example) the Germans tags and replace their text with swedish. I was told that it also worked just adding the <Catalan></Catalan> tags at the end of every tag but I that didn't worked.

You can also take my mod as an example (see my my signature)

In CIV4GameText_Misc1.xml you have these lines:
<Tag>TXT_KEY_LANGUAGE_0</Tag>
<Tag>TXT_KEY_LANGUAGE_1</Tag>
and so on.

You have to add
<TEXT>
<Tag>TXT_KEY_LANGUAGE_*</Tag>
<english>Catalan</english>
...
...
<Catalan>Català</Catalan>
</TEXT>
* = ordinal number of your language (if you replace German tags, it will be 2)

No offence to any Italian speaking Civ Fanatic of course, but I also started mine in Dutch, also replacing Italian

I still hope that other Dutch modder will reply here, if they can send me part of the work they've done so far. That will save some time. In this thread there have been al least two that said to have started translating Civ to our native tongue.

OK, this is a long shot but...

Does anyone know of any mods that translate the Chinese version TO English? After living in China for a few months I finally broke down and bought the local version (which btw seems to play just about exactly the same as the English one I played back home, except that the 'Communism' tech seems to be called 'Social Welfare', and of course no Mao, some other guy that my local girlfriend recognizes). This website has been invaluable in helping me muddle through but I'd really like to play in English again.

So, anybody know any mods for the Chinese version? Specifically translation to English? And would the patches here (for units etc) work in my version, do you think? I have zero programming experience but I could probably figure out how to translate using the info on this thread...

Hi walbeek,

ok, ok, it's nearly 5 years later in the meantime, but still I'm interested in the progress of the Dutch translation.
I've started a project of my own, Google translator based, but a verified translation (Google translations are of low quality) is what I'm looking for.

BTW: any other 'Dutchies' / Belgians (Vlamingen) (still) interested in a Dutch translation? I can use some 'beta-readers' for my translation (in case that no other - better - translation is available).
