Instead of a easy checkbox or button, here is how you can turn off those movies which CTD even my machine...
Double click the _Civ4Config file located in your Civ4 folder.
This opens CivilizationIV.ini a text file which you can edit...
Scroll down until you see:
Change the 0 to a 1 and no more movies.
Save the file (do not rename it) and you are done.
I was fine until about the 1600's and then my 64 bit SLI machine with 4 gig of RAM started CTD. Movies are beautiful, but not pretty enough to have to keep reloading last auto-save.
