how to zones of control work?

If four enemy units go by a unit of mine with zone of control does my unit get a free strike against each one that goes by or just one free strike? And if they go by a stack of three units, each with zone of control, do I then get three free strikes total or twelve (three times four) or still just one or four?

Yes and No, each AI unit (you are at war with) that passes you have a randon (from RNG) change to shoot it. So if 4 units pass one of yours you have a chance to hit 0-4 of them. Also not if the same AI unit pass a number of your unit (not stacked on the same tile) you may hit it a number of times. I have reduced some AI unit to a single HP before it attacked.

to increace your odds, make it pass between 2 ZOC units so you have better chances of hitting the thing.
