HR for Windows: Tech Spec

Hi guys,

I own a Mac laptop, and now I'm going to buy a second hand/used Windows (desktop one). I really need very low technic specifications (it's only for mailing and some office work), so I'm looking for a very cheap option.

But... the only reason I would contemplate to look for some higher technic specifications is playing Civ HR (and maybe some other mods or games... but HR the most of them). So, could you recommend me what should be the minimum requisites?

And still another question: the same tech specs, work equally in a laptop and in a desktop computer? I don't know why I imagine that in a desktop PC the tech spec would be better exploited...

Thanks!!

In terms of playing HR, the crucial things you'd want would be a 64 bit version of Windows and 8GB of RAM. It's apparently possible to raise Civ4's memory limit from 2GB to 4GB with this tool.

Hi guys, let's see if somebody could help.

I'm buying a new iMac just this week, I'm considering to do a small partition with Bootcamp just for playing a very few games: actually I mostly play Civilization IV and occasionally some other strategy games, I think all of them not very requirements demanding games (but I know nothing about computers so it's only a supposition I do). I'm interested on the partition just because I would like to play HR with K-mod and some other mods that only work on Windows. The thing is that I've never done a Bootcamp and I've read over there (in some forums) that Bootcamps usually have some problems with overheating and fan system when you play some demanding games (and maybe that could damage the computer over time?).

So my question is, I should not worry about that presumed problem with older games like Civ and HR, isn't it? Because if that could happen (not a good behaviour of the computer while playing through Bootcamp) I would not consider to do de partition, and I will keep playing only in mac version.

Here follows the specifications of the iMac:
  • 2.3GHz dual-core 7th-generation Intel Core i5 processor
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
  • 8GB 2133MHz memory

Note: the discussion here is not about buying a Mac or PC, I need Mac for work and I would sacrifice gaming over working needs. The question is just if you see with good eyes to do a Bootcamp partition for "gaming purpose" (and more specifically, for "playing Civ IV mods purpose") .

Thankss!!!

Ok so, after few days playing HR on bootcamp, I would say it works very fine and it doesn't seems the computer overheats. So I'm happy with this
