Humiliating Defeat

This is a minor thing but...
I hope that Civ4 is unlike [civ3] in that when you lose it offers other levels of defeat than humiliating. The defeat banner where I'm mocked by all the destroyed civs for losing to another civ is also in need of an upgrade.

Of course one solution is to eliminate the whole thing but if they take the time to put in victory/defeat art a little more variety would be nice.

I'd like it if the mocking screen was in the form of a political cartoon showing a cartoon-version of your leader being stood on by the other leaders. I don't know, just a suggestion.

Though I agree, it is in the need of change.

What do you suggest, then? "We have been awarded a quite honorable defeat that any nation would be proud to recieve! Congradulations!" The player doesn't much care whether he dies honorably; he cares about winning.

No, what I mean is:
If I'm conquered in 300 BC, I'm humiliated; but if I lose by space race in 2032 AD and am in a solid 2nd I should have say a "humbling" defeat or something.

And when the leader heads talk at the end -- those that survive may mock me but other destroyed AI shouldn't (I know they already have some different sayings).

Of course as I originally posted it's not a big issue but one that could easily be addressed.

Hey maybe when you lose or retire from the game, the other leaders who lost are with you and the surviving civs mock you and the other losers. I don't know if this is any better than the existing idea. Just something to think about.

I think if you lose then they should give you the gullitone (giatine).

The Germans, Russians, Japanese, and French should make fun of you. (The french can say that ur stupid and smell good) and then the Americans, British, Iriqouis, Chinese, and Indians always try to cheer u up.

and what this little system of yours is based on? Why would Russians make fun of you and Americans try to cheer you up?

What I don't get is whay the Iroquois would ty to cheer you up. Historically, they weren't magnanimous at all in victory! But then, who is.

Maybe that's because the joke is dumb and requires the same level of intelect to consider it funny...

That sound reasonable, if you are below X points from the leading civ, you are humiliated, but above X points you gain a humbling.

I think this is not a major issue or should be a priority. But I agree with you and feel the same way.

Ideally would be that there could be x different type of final ending screens, so that when you ended you could always being curious of what would be the screen. This way it could be motivating to see the result, not just the same boring screen.
This could even have small animations (if it didn't take too much space).

Well, a defeat is a defeat, doesn't matter if the onscreen text says it's humiliating or not.
