This is actually in conjunction with my idea for the next xpac. Any feed back on both threads would be cool. Explinations are in parenthesis. THIS LIST NEEDS HELP!!

1. Atilla's Court
2. Xiongnu (theorized ancestors of The Huns)
3. Oktar (let's just assume there was a Hunnic settlement named after their unifier)
4. Rugila (another assumption, a Hunnic settlement named after their consolidator)
5. Bleda's Court (where Bleda ruled from during his joint rule with Atilla)
6. Alan (first conquest)
7. Ostrogoth (2nd conquest)
8. Burgundy (fought with Huns)
9. Franconia (The Franks, another tribe allied with the Huns)
10. Pannonia (Roman Province that Huns were allowed to settle)
11. Kutrigur Bulgar (Group of Bulgars led by Atilla's son, Dengizich)
12. Utigur Bulgar (Group of Bulgars led by Atilla's son, Ernack)
13. Ellak's Court (Where Atilla's son, Ellak ruled from)
14. Oghur (Branch of launguages thught to have been spoken by the Huns)
15. Chuvash (Language that Attila speaks in-game)

...I first was going to say "Don't the Huns take their city names after Attila's Court randomly from other civs?", but then I looked at your link and everything makes sense now.

Honestly, I think it's perfect the way it is.

There's a very good list, but I unfortunately can't remember who to give credit too. Someone was using it to make a mod. It's buried in another thread. I hope he shows up and identifies himself (or someone else recognizes it). It's a mix of geographic locations and tribes known to be associated with the Huns:

Spoiler Hunnic City List :
Tapiomarton
Segedin
Sikambruk
Turuk
Hunuk
Akatziruk
Kutrigur
Sabir
Utigur
Suvar
Kevi
Antes
Sklavenir
Bastarnuk
Suebir
Aduni
Jegi
Egerseg
Telikhi
Laiduni
Bastetir
Tesongadi
Dorgathegi
Khalatir
Suchongadi
Livi

At a pragmatic level, how do they handle the "borrow from other civs" thing? My guess is they just leave the city list blank and the game automatically fills it in, but I didn't check to find out.

ETA: I would avoid the Xiongnu references since it's not an overwhelmingly popular theory anymore.

Why didn't they just use Hungarian cities for the Hunnic city list? The Huns didn't really find any cities of their own and a lot of people think that the Huns are ancestors of the Magyars.

Good list, but there is nothing historical and/or real in it.

Honestly, I think I won't buy this piece of sh.t.

Yes, this list seems to be very good, I hope that next time, Firaxis would search on "Huns" on Wikipedia, and then take a look at the capital's location and name...

Why didn't they just use Hungarian cities for the Hunnic city list? The Huns didn't really find any cities of their own and a lot of people think that the Huns are ancestors of the Magyars.

And the popular theory could be (kind of) true, affecting mostly the Seklers, the Hun(garian)s in central Transylvania.

The reason they didn't use Hungarian cities is that somewhy Firaxis avoids Hungary by 100%, just take a look at the language Attila speaks, an unidentifiable fake language, as far as I hear...

Actually, I think they'd rather create a Czechoslovakian DLC with Stephen I (of Hungary) as leader, who speaks Romanian... :wallbash:

Am I confused or is Budapest not the capital of Hungry :crazyeye:

Indeed it is, but as far as I remember there had been a city state called Vienna as well, am I right? Wasn't that the capital of Austria, which is now a major nation in Civ?
Plus: In the city list by Louis XXIV you can see the Hungarian city Szeged, written as S(z)egedin there. It is not necessary to write the city names in their current name (like Budapest: it wasn't Budapest until the unification of 3 towns in 1873)

But please, isn't it awful to say, that the capital is "Attila's Court", instead something REAL city? And the rest of the cities are merely stolen ones from other civs? I am Hungarian, yes, and I was very happy to see a bit of our history in the "humble" Civ 5, but I won't pay 30 Euros for this incomplete thing! Not until it's patched!

PS.: It is not "hungry" because we usually call it Hungary.

Well Attila is speaking an actual language (Chuvash, as the OP alluded to) but speaks it poorly because the voice actor is apparently a native Russian speaker. It seems picked that over Hungarian on speculation that while the Hungarians may be descendants of the Huns, the theoretical Hunnic language was Turkic, like Chuvash. It's classified as the only remaining Bulgar language, and there's speculation (apparently more credible than the Hungarian theory) that the Bulgars may have been partially descended from the Huns, given that they originated in the same area and shortly after the Huns collapsed.

But there is always the chance they just got lazy and picked Chuvash because they thought it sounded cool with the voice actor (Attila's speech when you DoW him is epic). I wouldn't put it past them to do that DLC.

Chuvish came about because its said to be the closest language to what Atilla spoke back then. Said to be; because my sources are the mighty and always reliable wikipedia. So you take that for what its worth

Yes, Wikipedia is a reliable source indeed.

Perhaps epic, but all I could understand is that there is a barbarian guy who is shouting something stupid thing, showing no sign of culture but total evilness. That's definitely not the setting I think could be correct for him.
