What is the 'hut pattern'? This was alluded to in one of the threads (scoring cap I think). I tried searching but 'hut' isn't big enough! Figured it would be easier to just ask...

using the map editor, make a small all plains forest, any dry land cept grass.
You will see clearly the pattern.Specials as well.Play with the resource seed for more study.

donsig,

here is the link for the map at Apolyton, you have to scroll down a ways.

Settlers/Engineers by Gastrifitis

and if that will not load here is the graphic alone.

Note: The red bits are specials & huts are the small tan Icons.

edit to try & fix the image but, Oh Well

Thanks people!

So now when I start a game and go exploring I must keep the pattern in mind to find more huts faster!

you can with the map editor.Change resource seed is the one that does it.
iirc setting it to 1 will make it random.Using anything else will do it...iirc up to 5 numbers.
Then when you start you will be asked if you want to randomize or go with it.

You may find this rule of thumb I use helpful:

Whenever you find a hut there is always a special 2 movements in the "1" or "9" direction, whether or not it is seen.

As a corrollary:

If you find a special, there is a 25% chance that a hut will be 2 movements in the 1 direction and there is a 25% chance a hut will be 2 movement in the 9 direction.

Does it go

123
4 5
678

If so what is the 9 ??

I don't really understand the question, but if you didn't know what he meant, 1 = South West, and 9 = North East.

You don't have to bother with that, just look at the pattern above.

my numeric keypad is
789
456
123

9 is up diagonal right

I agree the chart is all inclusive but my rule of thumb is good for those of us who don't carry the chart around with us at all times.

Ever feel like there was something right at your fingertips and you just.....OH

Thanks for your patience. I'd retract my earlier post here if I could, it sounds that silly to me.

I see that the hut and special pattern map was hosted by Angelfire and so we can't see it any more. Can someone with the cheat mode please do another plan of this. I printed it out from 'poly when it was available, but for newbies today then it could improve their game no end. Some one please help these unfortunate souls! :) I have looked for ages to post the image in some of these threads but without any luck. Can we have another copy?

Hi Ya Duke ,

Wow we were surprised to see this was still being referenced.

Congrats on the HOF staff deal.

P.S. why don't you just Play the purple Civ Duke.

I'm guessing you're referring to this thread. I was just answering a question for someone, not saying which Civ I play. If I ever did have time to try and play anything other than the Civ II GOTM, I would be purple. :D

Thanks on the HOF thing. I'm doing what I can to help out the forum. We all know Thunderfall needs all the help he can get. ;)

It's been awhile since I've seen you here, glad to see you're still around. :)

Actualy, it's 25% chance that a hut will EITHER be in the 1 or 9 position, or 12.5% in the 1 pos. and 12.5% it will be in the 9 pos.

No, there is always one (and only 1) special at either two spaces toward 1 or two spaces toward 9. I am pretty sure it is 50% for 1 and 50% for the other.
