Hyborem's Whisper in enemy cities

I'm not sure if this is a bug or just the way the spell is supposed to work, but when I use Hyborem's Whisper to take a distant enemy city (the AV capital), I'm not able to teleport units in with my Obsidian Gates. There are two cities I've tried this with, and in both cases, enemy units remain in the city after I gain control, and the Obsidian Gate target remains grey instead of turning green. If I instead take a city controlled by an ally, the teleport works fine. Is this supposed to work like this? Seems a shame that you can only use this worldspell if one of the top 3 cities belongs to an ally.

I'm using patch 0.41g, in case this is something that has subsequently been fixed.

Thanks for any help!

Being unable to gate to a city containing hostile units is normal (and can't change, because allowing it would cause problems). Enemy units remaining in the city after you take control of it sounds like a bug. That could cause a variety of problems (such as if a Manes was generated in the city before the enemy retook it), as well as being rather inconvenient by way of blocking your ability to reinforce the city (it's a wasted worldspell if the enemy automatically retakes the city without combat on the next turn). I don't know whether this happens in the latest patch, but I don't see any mention of it in the patch notes so it probably does. Hyborem's Whisper should probably be changed to immediately eject all hostile units from the city after it is converted.

Thanks for the response. I had assumed that Hyborem's Whisper automatically kicked out hostile units from the converted cities, but I guess that's not the case. Should I repost this in the bug thread?

Yeah, I'd suggest posting a link to this thread as well, so discussion (if any) can continue here. When I get a chance I'll test this in patch M, but I expect the situation will be the same.

I believe the spell does kick out enemy units (otherwise the game would probably crash). I think the issue you're seeing is that the Gates don't work for cities that are 'unconnected'.

Unconnected in what sense? You can gate between cities that aren't connected by trade route.

I'm not sure why Gates don't make cities connected...

We have a decent number of bugs realted to unconnected cities. We have identified gates not working properly as one of them. See bug report 3359 and 3375 from the bug list for more details.

Best wishes,

Breunor

Not entirely sure to be honest. I'm just referring to an issue noted in Bruenor's bug thread. I guess there are multiple ways that cities can be 'connected'. I'll try to look into the issue and see if I can't fix the airlift issue before the next release of my mod.
