Taking Out Enemy Airfield?

Any suggestions for how to take out an enemy airfield? I can't seem to take down Kanazawa (see screenshot below). I took out the city defenses on the aerodrome hex and the land unit on top of it. I can't seem to target it with my artillery anymore. If I try to move a tank on top of it, it tells me I can move on top of the airfield, but then it doesn't actually do it.

Is this a bug or working as intended? Am I supposed to attack the planes directly with my own planes (I hope not, since I'm running around with biplanes and Himiko has Zeroes. This is running on Xbox with the Day-One patch.

Based on the units you have in the picture, are you able to use the ships to bombard the aerodrome? There might be something blocking line-of-sight, so if that were the case, see if you could move a ship into the city center (right next to the aerodrome) and bombard from there. It'd probably be 1 bombard per turn, but it'd be progress (and your naval commander's mass bombard action could help since it gives bonus combat strength iirc).

Otherwise, if that doesn't work, I think you do need to use air units to get those air units out first

No nothing is able to attack the aerodrome and they were previously. So I think I took out the original defensive bonus of the aerodrome. So AFACIT the thing now appears invulnerable.

So someone must have had a situation where they attacked an aerodrome before, so I’m wondering if anyone has properly taken out an aerodrome with a land unit. If this is a bug, or if like units can only be attacked by like units, so the only way to take out an aerodrome is to attack it with air units (which seems contrary to the way this works in the real world).

There's a little red life bar under that pile of planes though, what is that for if you've taken out the aerodrome and you are unable to hurt the air units?

Here's me trying to move a infantry unit on top of the Aerodrome. You can see it thinks I should be able to go, but I can't. I did discover that I could order an air attack on the Aerodrome. However, given that Kimiko has Zeroes and I have Biplanes and "Trench Fighters" that did not go well. I ended up taking another city and am currently building Project Ivy. But either this is a bug, or it seems very odd that ground units cannot cause destruction of a air commander.

I see, hmm sorry I couldn't help more! I don't think I've encountered this issue, and I've no idea how is replicate it.

Well if normally an aerodrome can be taken out with ground units, I'll just put it down to a bug. Thanks for trying to help @CoconutTank
