For some reason, whenever I start up the game and try to load a game I can't load up the correct game.

Two nights ago I started my first full game (that was the plan anyway). I saved the game and went to bed (at 3am). Yesterday when I tried to load that game the save wasn't even in the folder. I didn't think to load an autosave that time. I also wasn't quite sure if I had hit the "save" button or "cancel" button (it was 3am after all), so I just started a new game last night.

Well... the same thing happened today. I started an awesome game last night and made sure to save it to the regular folder and named it something I would remember. Well, now I can't load that game but the save from two days ago is there now. What the heck? Does anyone have any idea why this is going on?

My computer is "below specs" but it still works. The map scroll is jumpy and the game is slow but I can deal with it as long as I can play.

I have an XP home edition 5.1, Dell Dimension 2400, Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A05, Intel Celeron CPU 2.40GHz, 254 MB RAM, DirectX 9.0c

p.s. I am not dumb, just "computer handicapped"

Edit: I forgot to mention that I have already patched the game.

Is an Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics controller" my graphics card?

I haven't installed anything new or different in my computer, just what came with the computer.

Your computer is not below specs for CIV4 although I don't know which graphics card you've got but thats not imporant at this time.

If your save from a few days ago showed up in the end that shows that the game is finding the saves you make (although a little late).

I was having problems like the one your having when I first installed CIV4, but when the patch came out I just downloaded and installed the patch, now all my problems are sorted.

How old is your computer?

and are all your drivers (like graphics drivers and sound card drivers) up-to-date?

Although installing driver updates might cause additional problems because sometimes (but not all the time, just sometimes) updates can stop things from working properly.

The computer is only 3-4 months old. Ordered it from Dell.
