I'm working on a new civilization, and I'm in the early stages. I edited the LeaderHeadInfos files using Notepad++, but when I tried to save the file after I was finished editing it, it gave me a "save failed" message. What's going on here?

Try using save as, and save it as something else, like LeaderHeadInfosEDITED.xml

Oh, and don't edit the original files. Ever.

To clear things up, I wasn't editing the original file, I had simply copied and pasted the file to a new folder.

I tried changing the name, but when I tried to save, it said I didn't have permission to save it, and that I needed to obtain said permission from the administrator...
It's my laptop!

I guess this is only an issue for Windows Vista users, so if anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

It could be that you had made the file a read only when you open it in notepad++. What color is the save icon by the name of the file?

Vista will refuse to allow you to save any changes made to files which are in the Program Files (x86) or Program Files folders, copy the files you want to change to your desktop, it will work then.

No, that's not correct: you need to edit/correct the Administrator function if you can't edit such files (I edit them all the time and I do have Vista).

Thanks guys. I solved the problem by saving the file to the desktop, then moving it where I wanted it to be.

I remember that it let me save if I made a new file. But I haven't encountered that for a while, because i've long since disabled UAC.
