I JUST bought Civ 4 today. I raced home and was really exited to play it. well, I pop it in and install it and everything. And then i start playing it, and like, I cant see anything but rivers, trees, the cities and the units. I cant see any other squares. And also, when talking with other leaders I can only see their eyeballs and their mouth. I also cant see the name of the city, or anything else like that. i took a screen shot of the game play to help explain whats wrong.

Does anybody know whats wrong with it, and how to fix it?

Probably a ram issue.

ram,video ram, page file.

Did you install the 1.09 patch?

Please post a Dxdiag info file.
Laptop or Desktop?
Is the computer a name brand or did you build it? If name brand, post the make and model #

Ok, so after doing some reading around I followed some instructions in another thread with a person who had the same problem. They had to run some thing and save all changes. I did that, so if there is anybody out there willing to help me, here it is.

I just bought it today, and I havent downloaded the new patch yet. I havent built it...I bought it. Its a HP Pavilion. It has Intel Pentium III. I'm not sure of the model #...it has 8562 on the front but I'm not sure if thats it. As far as I know the computer has 256 MB.

Sorry joe your graphics card is not supported by the game.
You have 256 mb of ram and minimum requirements are 512mp with win xp.
your processor is 500 mhz? minimum is 1.2

not going to work.

sorry.

sorry.

My box says that the min. requirements are 256MB and I have Win XP.

And I'm not too sure about the processor...how do I check?

yes 256 if u run 2000

If you run xp then you need 512.

Doesnt matter anyway your graphics card is too old and is below spec as well

as your cpu.

How come it doesnt specify that with 2000 you need 256, but with xp you need 512?

Good question.

How come you bought it when you did not make minimum spec with your video card or your processor.

Maybe you should take it back to the store and get your money back.

Because as far as I knew, it met the requirements.

Can I buy a new video card for it?

So what did you know about your computer before you bought it?

Meh, oh well. I'm just goign to return it tomorrow. Thanks for the help anyways man!

So I tried to take it back, but they wouldnt take it back. Now I either sit here...having wasted $50 on something I cant use, or I go out and spend $100 on a new video card...

Where would you guys reccomend getting a Video Card? The guy at game stop said that staples or wal mart should have a good one for between $50 and $100 that I needed. What would yall reccomend?

Hello

Just reading looking for solution of my problem, but thought I'll add something.

Your processor is too slow, The game will propably run, but it will be VERY slooooowly, I have Thunderbird 1400Mhz and it's just barerly acceptable. But it will work, patience required ;)

The thing you MUST change is graphic card, I'd suggest something like Radeon 9500+ (9550 with overclocking will do also) or Geforce 5 (5700 or better). If you can, you should buy something better, like GF 6600. Still you need new processor, something like Athlon XP / Pentium 4 + mainboard to fully use power of such cards in civ4 and many other games.

Ram, it will do, like processor - barerly. Large and/or long games will be VERY slow (it is cumulative in your case). I suggest 512MB, but if you can - 1024MB.

And if you want to upgrade anything, watch if it's combatible with your current configuration. If you're not certain, ask someone (I wouldn't risk asking in shop, they would propably just say "yes, of course").

And lastly, you should buy new computer if you really want good upgrade, maybe not everything, but definitely most of it.

Well I wanted short, got long, anyway glad to be of help (if I was, of course) :)
Good Luck

Thats friggen retarted. I'm not dropping $1,000+ on a computer like that for a damn $50 game. They said their store policy is that they tell the customers when they buy the game that once they open the game, it cant be returned. But I was never told that. I guess I just wasted $50.

Trade it on E bay for a copy of civ II gold edition.)

That might work on your computer.

I dont want Gold Edition, there is nothing special about it. I will stick Civ 3 with the Conquest expansion pack :)
