I was reading all this hullabullo and the way my mind works, it was trying to comprehend this unit. In it's defense I think It's a neat idea (in theory,don't know about in game). It seems to me to be a logical (though maybe not historical) early answer to heavy calvalry. A tight front line rushing to meet charging horses whould use the weight and momentum of the horses to drive the pike into the ground creating a bloody baricade. Forceing the enemy into a retreat under a rain of spears and arrows. The wheel would not only give more speed and remaining stamina to the person after the charge but allow a crucial few seconds to get the f**** out of the way.

or perhaps the "adlanteans" simply hated those pesky weeds
