Ottoman Empire.

Why?

1. Industrious. This advantage easily trumps EVERYTHING else in the game.

2. Scientific. Scientific usually doesn't do much, but in C3C it is amazing because of Scientific Great Leaders. Without them, you can't hurry wonders.

3. UU - The Sipahi is nice because it is a uu that is never obsolete due to upgrading. Also, I have no problem upgrading knights into Sipahi, I don't know why that seems to be a problem. Even if it is, try to maintain peace in the early middle ages and limit yourself to less knights and more defense.

4. Golden Age - For me, it generally comes at the beginning of the middle ages, perfect.

Comments?

Trust me, try Rome- its UU alone trunmps most others, as it gives the ability to havew a rather small small, yet ultra effective fighting force, and are perhaps the best units balence wise in the game to make an army (legion ;)) militarist ensures a good deal of elites, which stretghens your chances of getting a combat Great Leader- which you can use to build that army of legionaries

Well I took a break from the Mayans and am trying Ottoman. The Sipahi just rolls over most things. Trying to get a leader so I can create an army.

But are the Romans Industrious/Scientific?? Legions go out of date VERY quickly.

they should be Industrious/Militaristic

and no, they dont, I mod my game to where the legion do NOT "upgrade" into medieval infantry, and as such, the legions continue to work with good success against even knights- a legioanry army is nigh unstoppable until musket men, and very often riflemen.

Ahh...you see, I don't mod my games, which may explain it.

you migth want to consider playing around with it some- at first i didnt either, but after i took just a few step, i discovered mooding added a whole new layer of fun into the game :)

I only play one civ also. It's called Random :)

but the UU is unbanlenced, and the traits suck :p

God knows why, but I too have lost sense of variation, and always chose the almighty Random civ. It consistently outpreforms all others in my games, so maybe I really should change to get a proper challenge again ... :p

I agree the Ottomans kick butt. I played them like ten games in a row until I got conquests, and now I use the Mayans, but the Ottomans still have a place in my heart.

And why should Rome be industrious? The Romans weren't known for their manufacturing. They collected tribute to gain their wealth.

aquaducts, a trans contental road system which, escept for the paved over parts is still in there( and as you might have guessed from the whole paved thing, is the basis for a good deal of modern roads)

colloseums, inventing cements, including a type that drys UNDER WATER, theaters, seigh works, there is a plethroa of support for Rome being undustrious- namelly becuase Rome WAS industrious

Remember that Industrious is toned down now and you still only get a 5% chance to get an SGL.

Still, fast workers kick butt. And scientific increases your chance of a SGL.

Yes. But my new favorite trait combinations are now:

Expanionist and Seafaring (Portugal). Why? Scouts and 3-move Curraghs.

Agricultural and Industrious. Just a great combo, fast expansion plus fast workers to keep up.

Agricultural and Expansionist. Fast exploration and fast expansion to keep up.

Militarisitic and Seafaring. Rule the seas!

Overall the emphasis is on exploration.

Is it a very big advantage to "rule the seas"?

I'm not a great player yet, but I usually don't build very many ships, especially in the beginning when they can't attack cities.

I agree the Romans were builders, but I think industrious means manufacturing, like producing trade goods and machines and so on. The Egyptians built pyramids and temples and monuments aplenty too, but I wouldn't call them industrious. I guess it depends how you define Industrious.

I find the civs balanced enough that i enjoy playing mostly any civ. I can say though that i have never played as the Egyptians or the English. I just really dont like the chariot or the man o' war. however i;ve only played c3c a few times so mabey they have been improved.

Germans >>>> Fascism >>>> Panzers :)

What can beat the above combination, available before mechanised infantry and modern armour, they have done a world tour for me. War weariness nope don't know the meaning of the word...!!!
