I think Civ 6 is lacking wood based bonus and luxury resources

The addition of new resources (maize) to Civ 6 made me wonder, why is there no forest resources, that would be upgraded with a lumber mill. I got an idea for at least two easily implementable resources.

1. Bonus resource, oak wood. This would act as a harvest-able bonus resource that could spawn in forest tiles. It would fit Civ 6 pretty nicely, as a model of a couple large old oaks could be used. The bonus resource could add one gold for the forest tile it is in.

2. Luxury resource of wood tar. It would also spawn in forests nut would be a luxury resource instead. It could add production to the tile it is in in addition to the amenities. Wood tar was a big export for the Nordic countries and was used to waterproof ships for a very long time.

What do you think? Do you have any other wood typed resources you could think of?

Yes a big problem with this game is it doesn't give me enough wood to play with. I kind of feel a bit stiffed on this front which is pain in the behind. I know adding more resources might make it to hard to keep track of, but it's fun to have more to reach around sometimes.

I share the feeling. For me it makes no sense, that in the beginning of the game there is so many areas without forest. The plains terrain I understand, but almost all grassland should be covered with forests in the early game. In Civ V there would always be huge forests covering the grassland terrain. One of my fondest memories was a game with the Celts, where I spawned in a huge forest, that took ages to explore.

It might be just me but I think that you should just get iron from having mines since it's so common, ands a similar thing should happen with woods... and that woods should become a resource for things like boats and maybe as a fuel in the form of charcoal which I'd i recall was part of gunpowder.

Wood is already present as "woods" and "rainforest" terrain features. The only way you can really incorporate it is by splitting up "production" into manual labor and designated building material categories: Metal (Iron, Steel, Silver), Minerals (Stone, Clay, Glass, Quatz) and Organic Fibers (Wood, Textiles, Rope, Reeds), but that's something for a future Civ game imo.

One could introduce a few wood-related luxuries (ebony, mahogany, cedar, sandalwood), but here the problem is how do you incorporate them with "Woods" and "Rainforest" being features in the game already? With Lumber Mills being already present? It just seems like double work atm

1. Metals are minerals.
2. Those other two categories are already in game, so this point isn't really relevant. We have silver, Iron, crystal, and stone.

Well, we already have wood related luxury, like Amber. And Truffles. Those grow on the roots of trees only, right? And Cotton.

You can already 'farm' resources, why can't you 'log' woods?
