Hey all! I just got Civilization 3 (havent played the previous ones) and It is kinda different then the games that I am used to play (starcraft and warcraft) so I kept reading these message boards and tips and etc. etc. blah blah blah...........so I have some questions maybe you can help me.

1) What is this selling/buying bs? All I know is to build and conquer stuff not buy/sell?

2) where does the freakin pollution come from? ( I have pollution in the cities where I dont have anything such as factories and this sometimes happens before the industrilization )

3) Is it just me or does the QUEEN OF FUDGIN ENGLAND have a stick up her @$$ ? I played this game a couple of times and everytime I played England wanted a whole bunch of stuff and when I didnt give it to her she attacked me. I was technologically more advanced and we had the same sized armies. Is it my fault or P.M.S. ?

4) What do the tax collectors and scientists do in the cities? I figured what entertainers did!!!! (WOW---PEOPLE I AM THE NEXT EINSTEIN) ?

5) At this one lesson the guy said he was making 3000+ gold per turn, how is that possible? I was making 400+ gold at the end of my game and I had most of the great/small wonders that I could be built and I had like 15 cities....... (this is with 0% entertaintment/science)

6) What is the deal with the world and territory maps? the stupid AI wants to trade them and wants so much from me and when I say "no go fudge yourself" they attack me especially the QUEEN OF ENGLAND...........( DAMN I HATE HER)

7) This one time at band camp..........no I mean this one time when I fortified a cavalry and a musketman in a city a swordsman came and sliced him and a musketman into pieces.........how is that possible? to me thats illogical like a fish killing a sushi chef!

I would appriciate every answer you can give me........thanks!

HEHEHE.......i can actually reply to myselF!

hi, let me share some of my (little) experience with you.

1) you can buy techs or sell them. Also you can sell city improvements or buy them with the right goverment (rush building for money). Well, settle, expand & conquer ARE the major tasks in civ3.

2) Hmm, good question. People do pollute as well. I am also not sure if a pollution only occurs near the city where is was produced....

3) This is why we beat England in the Final and send them home :-). Beside that any AI does have a different character. It seems the English one is demanding and aggressive. I really wonder where this comes from :-)

4) I guess you will figure this out

5) Well, this very much depends on the goverment type (Democratie might be the best for money) and the resources and fields of your main cities. Rivers and gold e.g. are helping to get more money. 3000 I have never achieved, maybe 2000. I had one game where I always made loss, I still dunno why. I had a different nation there. Therefor I think the civ strengths are also important.

6) AI appreciate very much any trade. If you continue to refuse they all will attack you at some point of time. I agree that the agression ramps up way to fast for stupid little things. Well, maybe thats life, too.

7) I recommend to search for topics like "WOAHAHHH my tank was killed by a spearman' or 'FU$%&$%&$ how can my 50 tanks loose against one spearman'. These guys lost tanks, you have lost just a cavalry - so relax ;-)

Well, look at it this way: If two civs have something the other wants, if they trade it they both gain something compared to the rest of the civs. If you don't take part in this, then you handicap yourself - and get less popular.

2) where does the freakin pollution come from? ( I have pollution in the cities where I dont have anything such as factories and this sometimes happens before the industrilization)A large city makes quite a lot of garbage. I think a city starts polluting due to city size around 19 citizens.

3) Is it just me or does the QUEEN OF FUDGIN ENGLAND have a stick up her @$$ ? It is you.

One of the collect taxes (1 gold per turn) and one researches techs (1 gold per turn's worth). You'll have figure out who does what by tourself though.

5) At this one lesson the guy said he was making 3000+ gold per turn, how is that possible? I was making 400+ gold at the end of my game and I had most of the great/small wonders that I could be built and I had like 15 cities....... (this is with 0% entertaintment/science)
15 cities don't seem like much. Try 50, and try trading luxuries to other civs for 30-40 gold per turn each. And you do have democracy?

6) What is the deal with the world and territory maps? the stupid AI wants to trade them and wants so much from me and when I say "no go fudge yourself" they attack me especially the QUEEN OF ENGLAND...........( DAMN I HATE HER)
That'll teach you to treat the other civs with more respect in the future.

7) This one time at band camp..........no I mean this one time when I fortified a cavalry and a musketman in a city a swordsman came and sliced him and a musketman into pieces.........how is that possible? to me thats illogical like a fish killing a sushi chef!Maybe the fish actually was a shark.

I would appriciate every answer you can give me........thanks!
You're welcome ;)

It is because it was not a regular swordsman. It was SuperSwordsman. But beware ! for his archnemesis SuperSpearman is stronger still.

as for pollution: you get pollution when the city gets too large (poll from people) or when it produces too much, so if you have a size 12 city with lots of mined hills, say one with iron, then get Golden Age....... there you go!

Lt. 'Killer' M, are you sure about that?

I think that one of the changes from civ2 to civ3 is that production doesn't affect pollution at all (but production inreasing buildings like factories and coal plants do).

So two size 20 cities produces the same pollution even if one have a production of 15 shields and the other 100 shields.

TheNiveOne: I'm pretty sure I had pollution in my Capital several times..... but I might mix this up with Civ2.....

THANK YOU ALL FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS, I AM SURE I WILL HAVE MORE IN THE FUTURE!
