Hello everyone,
I miss the gigantic maps I was able to create in Civ III. Can anyone tell me how to create much larger maps in Civ IV. Im not looking for designer maps, I let the computer create them - just larger maps is all I want... I don't know enough about these programing tools to know which parameters control which functions nor where to find them. Any help would be appreciated.

There are several mods with larger maps BUT at large sizes, MAFs occur much more frequently, as does slowdown between turns. Also, some mapscripts get overriden at that size. I believe the PlanetGenerator has an option to make supesized maps.

What is a MAF?

Thanks for the answers. Now I can call it something other than "#%$@!" if it happens to me.

Essentially it's very easy. Just go into this file, CIV4WorldInfo.xml, and adjust the map sizes for any of the map types. You'll find the file in Assets/XML/GameInfo. Be sure to copy it over to your Custom Assets folder before you edit it.

I found that the "Huge" Maps weren't quite big enough. Close... but not perfect for 18 player maps. So I made an additional size map that doesn't over-write any map information and is available on almost all the normal maps.

This only works for BtS since I didn't want to bother make & test it for just Vanilla or Warlords.

^ That mod meets the OP's criteria, but the download link is broken. Anyone know a way to fix that?

So that mod would generate HUGE maps using the map algorithms available in a fresh install.

I've downloaded and use PlanetGenerator, it works awesome - I love it...
thanks Mechaerik for the tip

The only reason i don't always use the PG is because i can't make terra-type maps, with 1 empty continent and 1 regular one.
