Hi. I'd like to go back to play Civ V, and I was wondering if you could give me recommendations for the best mods to install.

Best AI mod - Smart AI. there are mods which improves more stuff, but they go with more bugs and controversial features.

Good timesaving mods: Quick Turns, Faster Aircraft Animations

For additional information I prefer Global Relations to InfoAddict. Do not remember why, but there was some reason.

And there is Honest Difficulty. It's my attempt to fix fundamental problem of all civ games where real challenge is at the beginning and later eras are where you snowball boringly. Feedback will be appreciated if you'll use it.

There are countless other mods, but I can't say for sure that they really make the game better. For example appreciated by many Vox Populi mod/overhaul feels kind of boring for me.

Thanks for the tips.
What about the "big ones"? "Vox Populi", "Events and Decisions", religions.
I also really need to brush up on Civ V modding, because I completely forgot how it works.

Vox Populi completely overhauls the game, it's almost like playing a different game. I personally don't play VP because I like playing with lots of mods, especially those that add more civilizations, and not every mod is compatible with VP (though most of the 'bigger ones' are)

OK, then I'll ask it this way:
I don't want to add new civilizations, at least not on a permanent basis, I may install one civ to play with it, then remove if I feel like trying something's not in the game. What I want is something that improves gameplay, gives me new units, buildings, abilities and stuff like that, improves the tech tree. Should I start with Vox Populi or avoid it?

What you want then is nothing less than Vox Populi. You could ask more in the VP sub-sub-forum

Well, I've installed it, but it looks like there is some issue with the diplomacy screen.

I think you're better off posting in the Community Patch forum. I've never played with Vox Populi, and most of the very few active posters in the main Civ5 forum don't, either.

I use Enhanced User Interface mod, which IMO is what should have been shipped with the game.
However this is not a Steam mod and I've noticed a few text glitches here and there:

I tried getting into Vox Populi but there's a bit too much bloat for my tastes. Apparently the AI is much much better...

Come back myself and set the following mod list focusing on being civ 5 with fixes, similar to above suggestions.

Fixes
Community patch (not vox populi) OR Smart AI
  • As community patch contains superset of Smart AI plus more. But unknown exactly what else is included and doesn't seem to be commonly used as standalone so smart AI is my fallback.
Its possible mods below are not needed but not looked into it and nothing breaks with them included.
Faster Aircraft Animations
Furious Turns - Newer version of quick turns with more control
Gibraltar, Reef, and Krakatoa Fixes
Lake victoria fixes
Exploration Fix - Add the missing +1 modifier to embarked movement
Ethiopia color fix
Longhouse flavours fix

UI
EUI (FrontEnd Module Only) - I only install the core and frontend module to get access to enabling mods in hotseat. Installing any more conflicts with community patch.
Global Relations
UI - Highlight antiquity sites
Colored Religions
Unit Path Viewer

Lightweight Balance Tweaks
Combustion Fix
Sephis Balance Mod
Cheaper workboats
Scout to explorer

Hello,
I would like to ask - what would be the best ancient time mods or scenarios for CIV5? I really had great time with The Ancient Mediterranean mod on previous games, but can't find something like that for CIV5. Thanks for all the help in advance.
