ICBM joy!

Speaking of ICBMs I think it's unrealistic for the Manhattan Project to be able for ALL civs to build nukes. Soviets only managed to explode an a-bomb b/c they infiltrated the MP.

Are you sure? I don't think there's any concrete evidence one way or the other.

Iraq doesn't have nukes yet (we hope). Other nuclear nations include France, Britain, China, and Israel. South Africa, Brazil, the Ukraine, Kazakhstan and others used to be in the nuclear club, but they gave up their weapons.

I don't think it's TOO unrealistic that Manhattan Project gave nukes to all civs -- after all, in the Civ II world, only the top 7 (at most) civilizations are playing. Any of the top 7 nations today could easily get their hands on nukes, if they don't have them already.

It was a documentary that we watched at school called "20th century with Mike Wallace" and that's where I learned that. And that it a pretty straight-facted documentary. How else could the Soviets learn about it? They got things by spying.

It's not like the Americans leaked it out to everybody - because that would kill the concept of nuclear deterrence. And even when the rouge nations get them, it's not because they built them - it's because they stole them or bought them. So they don't really know how to build them. At least that's my reasoning.

The Nazis had significant nuclear research projects ongoing during World War II, and the principle inverntor of the Atomic Bomb was German in origin (A jewish refugee). Had they not been so entrenched in ethnic cleansing, they would definitely have had atomic technology before the Allies.

I'm pretty sure Soviet scientists invented at least one nuclear weapon by themselves -- I don't recall if it was the original A-Bomb or the H-Bomb. Of course, it's easier once you've been shown a "proof of concept" by the American team...

Don't underestimate the ingenuity of Soviet scientists; the Soviet educational system used to be one of the world's finest in mathematics and the physical sciences.

If you really hate nukes, raze the city that built the Manhattan Project. As a Great Wonder it can't be rebuilt.

This also opens up some interesting strategies if you're the first one able to build nukes...

True, true - they scared the America with their idea of the Inter Continental Ballastic Missles and with some other stuff - scary, scary time.

If you raze the city of who built the Manhattan Project, what effect would it have, I wonder? It "allows all civs to build nukes" and would it continue with it decimated?
