Have some of you played IWD1 or IWD2.
I'm playing IWD2 now, and it's quite enjoying. Too long to play though. Was always curious about the parties people choosing.
Well, share your opinions and emotions; secrets - why not?

I have IWD1. I liked it a lot, though it's been a while since I've played it. Lemme see, I had a regular non-specialty mage, a bard, a druid, a ranger, a cleric and a thief/mage. It was pretty challenging especially in the beginning since I only had one fighter type trying to hold the baddies off.

I played original Icewind Dale with 3 x Fighter, Cleric, Thief and Mage. All were elves. Unfortunaly thief died before the end. I never resurrect dead characters, nor create new ones to replace them. Mage and cleric died against Balhifet.

I liked the game alot... but never seriously concidered buying IWD 2, I have heard it is too linear, and since IWD 1 was also, it is easy to believe... I don't value games that have short lifespan.

BG 1 & 2 (with expansions) were much better and interesting, have to mention since they are so similar to IWD. I still play BG 2 sometimes. NWN was a huge disappointment.

Nope!

well, the riddles in BG weren't too hard either. I played the whole series with my girlfriend and we both hated NWN, too. BG2 was the best part IMO.
To answer your question, we played an all-halfelven party, with fighter and thief/mage/cleric. So nobody is too weak and we could both explore a bit of the map with our 3 characters each.
