I keep reading on the posts about ICS. I presume its infinite city sprawl but I am unsure of what exactly is the strategy behind it so if someone can inform me I would greatly appreciate it.

Yeah, Infinite City Sprawl. Basically, build lots of cities with Trading Posts to get huge amounts of money, and using the money to buy out Maritime City States. Have one or two cities that are production oriented, the rest... yeah.

This thread is a list of reasons why ICS works so well. The basic strategy is contained therein: eliminate per city unhappiness and keep your population such that each new city is actually happiness positive.
