I realize this can't be done unless Firaxis does it themselves but I figured it was worth sharing. I was thinking about how third world countries could be made in Civ3 and it turned out to be even more...

I think gold should only be used until a certain point in the game. At that point, each civ gains their own currency. You get to name your civs currency yourself, but the AI uses whatever that civ actually used or would use for the others.

The value of the currency is decided on the size, culture, and power that civ has in the world. Trade should also boost it. This would simulate 3rd world countries in the game better, because the smaller civs money would be worth less and make them behind in technology.

So, my Dollars aren't nearly as high as say... the Japaneses Yen. So, I have to work harder and longer to buy something that would actually be worth something to them.

Of course, you should be able to trade units, too. A small country would be able to trade some musketmen for a tank. Or trade a resource for a few bombers. Units could not be used to trade for technology, but you can get units that require a technology you do not have. Pretty much the way they do get their tech weapons, but made to fit the game.

Good idea but unfortunately probably too late/difficult for Firaxis to implement this time around.

Really good ideas, but I think Firaxis don't wanted civs to be behind in tech, so they did everything to avoid kind of 3rd world countries in Civ3.

According to the chat with Firaxis (14.06.02) unit trade will not be possible.

I know it's too late, but I was just sharing.

I was playing my GT mod awhile back, and Brazil actually became a third world country despite their massive amounts of resources. They just didn't have enough money to learn as fast. Brazil was my only source of both rubber and oil so I signed a mutual protection pact allowing me to protect those valuble resources. So when the Americans declared war on me (Bolivia) late in the Industrial Age, all of a sudden Brazillian Bowmen, Crossbowmen, Mounted Archers, Swordsmen... you name it, all of the outdated units came rushing to kick Americas ass. They actually did very well too. They were sooo far behind... they were the only country with 2 supplies of coal and I couldn't trade for one because they didn't know it was there! Thus, Bolivia has no railroads! Thank God for my pals across the sea, Palestine. If it wasn't for them I'd have been as far behind as Brazil! That was a tough game for alot of reasons.

BTW fidelcastro, Cuba is in my Guerilla Tactics mod and I must say they are excelent :D

That mod sounds great! So far I haven't used any mod at all, but I guess this will change now - just downloaded it.

Does this mod also include a map?

I'll certainly try it und probably link it from my page www.Civvulution.de if it is okay for you.

Edit: I've just downloaded und installed but the fonts do not work. On most parts of the game no text appears anymore or so bad that I nearly can't read it.. Do you know why? My version is US-1.21 and I never had this problem.

This happens to me all the time. When I'm despaerate I sign a ROP with them send in a worker and build roads to allow them to collect the resource. Then trade/give them tech to discover its existence.

Thanks for the compliments! I've worked very hard on it and so far I have yet to see any imbalances. When I edit my site, I'll link to your site, too.

Text problems? That's the first I've heard about it. Is that during the game or before? Please tell me exactly so I can try and figure out the problem.

That's what I eventually ended up doing. But, the amount of techs I had to give them to get to that point was unimaginable. They must now praise Lidia of the Bolivians like a God now... or die!
:hammer:
