What I really like to see in civ 4 is import/export of food and shields. Why so?
In the reality for example New York can’t exist only through his farms around it, but imports food from somewhere else or from other countries. Another example is that a pyramid was not build in 100 or 1000 years but only in 2-3 decades (if I’m correct), the pharaoh imported workers and slaves also from other cities (shields in Civ 3).

So:

You can import/export food and shields between you cities
You can import/export food and shields from/to other civs for gpt or something else

Better even would be if this is done automatically. That all the food resources of the cities will be used to supply all cities with food. In case you still have food left or need food, it can be traded with other civilizations.

Have you seen the UET II thread before? This basic idea of food and shield trade forms the basis of the UET II economy, and it might interest you to see how much the fundamental tenet is expanded to encompass almost all of Civ! Also, quite a bit of discussion and other people's ideas are in the thread, which might also be interesting. The link to the UET II thread is in my signature below.

Anyway, I of course also support import/export of food and shields. And I also support it being distributed automatically, to eliminate micromanagement.

I like the idea of food importation; Most of the food used to feed US Cities comes from Kansas and Nebraska. A more important concept would be foreign food trades; ie 10 gold per turn for 20 food per turn. The reason for this is that the most populous city in the world (Tokyo) and all of Japan have to import food to be sustained. In current CivConquests, a realisic map of the United States would cause Omaha, Nebraska to be a bustling Metopolis with millions of people and New York a minor city of about 90,000-100,000 people (Level six or seven).
