"Would you like some salad? I made it myself. . ."

Julius Caesar, AD 150

That's just ********. This game deserves MUCH better dialogue. After all, these are the representations of some of the greatest mortals ever to live.

I think this game should be serious and as realistic as possible, so I edited the diplomacy text file to make the world leaders sound more like real world leaders and less like 9th grade buffoons.

Unfortunately I only speak english, so the text in other languages remains unchanged. I encourage others to change these as well.

Here's the .xml file. It's zipped because some browsers don't handle .xml files very well. Just unzip it and copy it to your Civ 4 directory (Not in My Documents, but where you actually installed the game) in \Assets\XML\Text.

Enjoy!

Humor has been a long tradition of the game. Personally, I like the cheezy lines (I added a couple more myself, and even made a mod having fun with the religions). I suggest that this should be posted in the completed modpacks section, even though it's small. That way, more people will notice it and not think that you're just planning a mod.

Humor is fine in DIplomacy as long it is sophisticated and relevant. The stock script is lame because the original author mingles sober sounding edicts and declarations with random sophomorish humor. It just doesn't mix well in my opinion. I prefer subtle humor in Civ. Part of my fun in Civ is to role play in the world I have created.

Another thing that nags me is the icon for the Internet - Al Gore's mug on an American flag. Now I have nothing against Al Gore, but I am certain Mr. Gore did not invent the internet, or have much to do with it besides political haymaking. Is there a guide on how to change the tech icons? I've looked but I don't know what I'm looking for yet.

I think maybe a Matrix-Style icon or a plain vanilla WWW symbol would be better than some washed up politico.

Any advice on how to do this?

BTW, the Blue Marble mod is excellent. It's a snap to install and makes the map even more beautiful than before. Combine that with the 1.09 patch and this game moves to the head of the pack of all previous civ games.
