In Game Tech Tree is wrong

My in-game tech tree shows no dependency on Masonry for Monotheism. If I click directly on Monotheism with only Mysticism discovered, Polythesim and Masonry get highlighted as techs one and two, but Mining, which is a dependency on Masonry, does not get highlighted and researched.

The above is just one example of many. There are aother discrepenancies.

I have applied patch 1.52. This is confirmed from the main menu/settings/something.

I'm running retail Win XP with automatic version updates. I have 512 MB of mem and a Geforce FX5900XT, which is adequate.

I assume that others are having this problem, however I see no mention of this on the boards. Is anyone else having it?

What should I do to fix this?
 
You're misunderstanding the tech tree. The arrows indicate optional tech paths. You only have to have one of the techs with an arrow to a tech to research it, not all of them. For example, to research Masonry you need Mysticism OR Mining, but not both.

Some techs also have specific mandatory prerequisites, which are displayed as small icons in the top right corner of the tech box (if you have trouble identifying the icons, just mouseover them). For example, the tech tree will show an icon for masonry in the corner of the tech box for monotheism, because it is a mandatory prerequisite.

Everything's working perfectly here, you just need to get the hang of how to read the tech tree.
