Install problems

I purchased this game yesterday and during the install process I get a catastrophic error when it asks for disk 2. Apparently disk 2 has some cab files that the installer needs but it can't find them.

So, I called technical support and after trying several things the technician agreed that disk 2 was bad. He suggested that I return the game and exchange it for a new copy. I did so.

I went home at lunch time and tried to install it again and got the SAME error message.

I have since tried this on my wife's computer, my work computer and a new IBM T42 Laptop, they all fail. Is it possible that my SECOND copy is bad as well? If so, what distributor did Firaxis use, because they stink.

Has anybody else experienced this? If so, is there a work around or am I stuck returning game after game from this batch until I find one that actually works?

Signed,
Very pissed customer

Long Shot ....

Early game releases had the "Play" label on the wrong CD - you may have one of those - they got it the wrong way round on printing the label on a batch

Thank you for the reply Zydor but I have two disks, one starts the install process through autoplay, the other is asked for by the install program.

I don't think it would work if I reverse the disks or leave in disk 1 when it asks for 2. :(

I've even gone so far as to try and copy both disks to a temp folder on my c:\ drive and run the install from there but on my first purchase of the game, disk 2 would not copy to the c:\ drive stating that the cab was corrupted. The second copy from the store can't even see the data on disk 2 on some of my drives (all new equipment).

Is Firaxis or whoever really this cheap? They have entire batches of poorly burned CDs and we're forced to use these forums for support because they take 5 weeks to answer an email? Man, the more I think about this the more upset I get. I may just be returning this game and letting my money speak - i.e. they don't get my money.

Another long shot - run a program called sd4hide - using it to assist with the problem here is legal, do not use it for other purposes you will see there - thats illegal and leads to a whole world of hurt.

Google "sd4hide" you'll get the idea

I thought I'd come back here and explain how I fixed my install issues:

I went back to the store where I purchased and subsequently returned a couple of copies of the game. I explained how disk two wasn't working. The manager thought I was an idiot. I asked him to try it on one of his display desktop units. He did. It failed.

So we went through 6, yes 6, copies of the game until we found one that worked and I took that one home. The angry manager is sending the lot back to Firaxis.

To anybody out there having install issues, don't stand for it, return it.

I salute your persistance!:goodjob:

I'm having the exact same issues. It's kind of disheartening to know that they sent out this many defective CD's, if that's really the case. Have they ever heard of a recall?

Well hopefully, I can get the same service at Target as you did for wherever you bought it. I'm currently as "Stage 2" of the whole Customer Support service, and they're telling me to wait 3-4 days for a response. Sounds like I just need to go to Target and find one that works. I hope the manager there is as friendly and helpful as yours was.
