[Installation] Can I do this, and if so, how?

Owing to various download issues, I have been unable to update FfH2 for a long time. I may have found a workaround, and now have the latest version and patch [as of 29 May 2010]. However, I am reluctant to update BtS to version 3.19 only to discover that my workaround to get the latest FfH2 is a failure, since this would mean my older copy of FfH2 which is based on BtS 3.17 would no longer work. (Playing an outdated version of FfH2 is better than having no FfH2 at all.)

So, can I make a new directory for BtS, install a second copy there, update that to 3.19, and then install the current version of FfH2 there? Or will this screw up the preexisting version of BtS?

Also, if there is a better way to do this, please mention it. Thank you.

I have not tried installing a second copy of BtS, but I suspect that it will not go well. The second copy will likely overwrite important registry keys, which would mean that your first copy would not work as expected.

I suggest this approach: Locate your current "Fall from Heaven 2" folder and copy it to another location (one not in your Civ4 folder or any of its sub-folders). Then, update Civ4 to v3.19 and install the v3.19-compatible version of FfH2 that you have. (I'm not sure what your workaround is, but I assume that you have the installer and possibly also a patch. If that's correct, then you can just delete the "Fall from Heaven 2" folder in your BtS Mods folder, after you have copied it to another location like I described.) If your workaround has been successful, you should then be able to play BtS v3.19 and FfH2 for v3.19. (You can then safely delete the copied "Fall from Heaven 2" folder.)

If for some reason your workaround fails, and you need to go back to your old version, do this: Uninstall Civ4, reinstall Civ4, patch to v3.17, and then copy your old "Fall from Heaven 2" folder back into the BtS Mods folder. You will then be back to playing BtS v3.17 and FfH2 for v3.17.

Thanks, Emptiness. Yes, I have the Installer and Patch N. My hard drive has just been backed up as well since I had to install other software. Once I've made sure that program works properly, I'll try your suggested solution. Thanks again.
