I can't figure out how to post pictures on here, but I took a print screen of what the error popup looks like.

It says...

Feature Transfer Error
Feature: C++ Runtime Libraries 7.1
Component: (BLANK)
File: (BLANK)
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

On the main installation screen, the last thing it was installing was...

C:\... \ Sid Meier's Civilization 4.msi

The progress bar was completely full.

What should I do!?

 No one has an idea of what to do?

Time to contact the Civ4 help line!

Still no one has any idea?

CRC error usually means there is a problem with the CD/DVD - it can't get the data without errors.
I'd uninstall Civ4 if it's in the add/remove programs, clean the DVD and then reinstall. If there's any obvious scratches return it and get a new one.
Alternatively, you could just see if it works, but given the game has a lot of problems already I wouldn't recommend trying this out!

I have the exactly same problem. And with 2 different PCs. I submitted the error to Take 2, and they came back with "My graphic adaptor" wasnt supported.. I found that I only had 32 megs on that machine, so probably true. But this error doesnt seem to be that problem ? I mean, I plan on upgrading my machine, butI want a CIV4 version that works for when I do. I just tried installing on my other machine with a 64 megs adapter (Nvidia MX440) - and I get same error. Any ideas of what I can do ?

If you still get CRC errors after cleaning, deinstalling, and reinstalling as suggested above - it really is a disc return, there is a corrupt file there somewhere.

This worked for me.

1. Do not close that error box at all. (I lose the install then except for the empty folders.)
2. Control/Alt/Delete to end the install.
3. Reboot, start game, or some combination like that.....Just do not close that error box except with control/alt/delete.....this is with WinXP anyway.

That worked for me. BUT the patch will not install because it says no versions of CIV4 are installed. Another thing is the program is not listed in the add/remove programs folder of the control panel.

But the game runs relatively bug-free. I will probably try to take it back and get another copy though if that what the CRC business is all about.

Good luck.

I'm having the same CRC error - every time I try to load the same file hangs - "Art0.FPK". Sometimes other's do to - sometimes they don't...

I tried the cntrl-alt-del above & it didn't seem to work... I called support and they told me to run "msconfig" and go to the "start up" tab and disable (uncheck) everything restart the computer and try reinstalling... all this did was mess up my computer services and take a couple hours to fix...

they also told me to copy the CD's onto my hard drive and install from there... no success.

I had another copy that I was going to give as a gift (not sure now!) which I tried (thinking it actually was a disk problem) but I got the same error...

Once it appeared that I got everything but that one file loaded... but still didn't work. I downloaded the patch - no success.

Are more others having the same issue?? maybe it is just the disk... but it's too big coincidence that it happened on two copies - no? any ideas? thanks!
