Installing 3.16 from github on Steam Civ V?

I renamed the directory and it was picked up by the game's mod directory. I don't know why that worked or why it was invisible prior.

I didn't have a steam subscription. Expired might know more about this flaw but one guess could be that you have both installed. Disable or move the steam version maybe and that maybe why it didn't appear initially as well.

As far as it getting updated, that we can't do much about. Thal is the access point and he is away for RL for a while.

The latest release on GitHub contains 5 files. 4 are *.civ5mod and the other is an installation.txt that is simply a link to the Communitas wiki.
civ5mod files are simply archives that are recognized by the game engine and contain all the folder structure and files needed for each mod.

Firstly you should unsubscribe the mod from the Steam page as everytime you start the game (if the Steam client is online) that version will override the newer GitHub version.
Next delete the current Communitas folders in the MODS folder and clear your cache and moduserdata folders.
Lastly all you should do is unzip the file into your MODS folder. The *.civ5mod files will automatically extract and be available for selection in the mods menu.

I am coming back to this great mod after a long absence, but cannot install from GitHub. I have followed ExpiredReign's advice and unzipped 3.16 to the mods folder, but it does not appear in the game's mod directory. I notice there is no Civ5mod file anywhere in the sub directories. I have even copied in the individual file subfolders (CAT, CIN, etc.) to see if they would appear this way, but still no luck. I am running on Steam with the latest release. Any ideas as to fixing the problem would be greatly appreciated!

The files available from GitHub are in a zip file called: Download_CEP_3.16.zip
If they are called something else then there is a problem on the GitHub page.

Assuming the correct download is available the first step is to make them seen to the game engine.

Step 1 is crucial. You must be unsubscribed from the mod in the Steam client.

Step 2. Unzip them into the MODS folder. The game engine will on starting, extract them.

Step 2a. Sometimes clicking the 'Options' button in the top right hand corner helps. It seems to refresh the game to look for new mods. Sometimes.

Step 2b. If they do not extract, using whatever archive software you have, manually extract them into their named folders. ie. Communitas Enhanced Gameplay (v3).zip becomes a folder called Communitas Enhanced Gameplay (v3). Repeat for the other zip files.

Step 3. Start the game and select the mods.

If you cannot see the *.modinfo files then something has been screwed up in the extraction process. These files have been downloaded and installed numerous times and contain all the necessary files.

Check that you archive and/or file manager software is seeing all the files. None of them are set as hidden or system when compressed but maybe there is a glitch at your end making them unseen.

If you can't install them a second time could you please either post a screenshot of the installation directory or a txt file of the directory/file listing. Maybe repost the archive, as you have it on your end, here in this forum.

As I said earlier, these files have been untouched for some time and have been downloaded and installed successfully many, many times.

I will, in the next few weeks, be posting a new version both here and on GitHub. If you can't get these files to work you may consider waiting.

Major error on the GitHub page. The last release was, for unknown reasons, reverted and the 'actual' latest was unavailable.
This should be now fixed.
Apologies to all.

So it seems that I'm unable to download the 3.16.1 or 3.16 releases, only their source codes. The last release I can download is 3.15.1.

When I go to https://github.com/Thalassicus/cep-bnw/releases i can click on the green "Latest release" button. It gets me to the "Minor patch" post/site (https://github.com/Thalassicus/cep-bnw/releases/tag/v3.16.1) and I can only download "Source code (zip)" or "Source code (tar.gz)".

Is this intentional? Could someone post the files on a mirror site or sth?

Apologies people there is some major stuff up going on.

Went to the GitHub page again today and for some reason beyond me it is again reverted to the last release. So I proceeded to 'release' version 3.16 again. Everything appeared well.
Logged off, exited the browser, started again, logged on and, you guessed it, no updated release.

I am truly sorry, I have no idea why it isn't working.

Until I get back to my home system I can't release a new version via the GitHub page. What I can do though is provide a link to another posting where I have the 3.16 mods linked. It isn't the most ideal solution but it will get you through until I get back.

Version 3.16 post

The GitHub versions are the four last listed links. The two above it are minor edits specific to the thread topic.

Lastly, I will be able to post version 3.17 soon. It contains all the latest changes made under the direction of mystikx21 as described in the threads in this forum.

Looking a little more at the release notes it appears most users, both on Steam and via CivFanatics downloads, are using version 3.14.

Thalassicus drafted the 3.16 version after I had made a minor release, 3.15.1, around the middle of April. In it he proposed to do some final testing over the weekend and release a new Steam version in addition to the GitHub one. I can only assume this was around the time RL issues took priority with him and those releases never actually took place.

As I mentioned earlier, as a collaborator, when I looked at the release page I saw the draft copy of that release and just assumed it was also seen by all, and hence the latest version could be downloaded. Apparently not.

The next version I release, if you haven't been keeping up with all that is happening here, will be more than likely the last for some time. I will be shifting my attention to the new DLL based mod, Community Balance Project, and will only visit this sub-forum infrequently.

I have left comments on the Steam Community pages to look either here or the GitHub page for help and I will continue to help ALL users of CEP into the future. Only I will limit the changes to the mod to major bugfixes not feature change.

Again, apologies for the error with the download.

Certainly there is and it isn't too far away. It has its own sub-forum under the Civ5 -Project & Mod Development link here, Community Patch Project.

Though I haven't tried it just yet, from what I have gleaned from the posts it has progressed nicely with the DLL code and the next step is the porting of CEP's code, primarily the buildings.

Be sure to check it out and you can assist in many different ways if you so desire.

CPP won't be a pure port of anything and everything in CEP as there are some dramatic changes to some of the overall game systems going on.

Units and promos changes would probably be closest from following the threads. But many of the ideas from buildings will be used, or particular buildings improved in some way (garden, stable, factory, etc). It will be getting a good deal of influence from it as a result.
