Invisible files????

Hi everybody. I got CIV 4 Gold Edition for my birthday, and I've been having a lot of fun with it, but I wanted to make a few simple modifications. Really only one, for now. I like playing a rather slow paced game, so I always prefer to play on Marathon. But in my opinion, years still go by too fast, and buildings/units get built waay too slow. I wanted to make a simple modification to slow down the years/turn ratio even more, and to speed up the amount of hammers needed to build things. Basically, for the construction aspect, I would like it to be just a little slower than normal.

But all the modding tutorials in the world won't do me any good, because I can't see any files besides save games!:(

All my folders in my Warlords directory are empty. The only folders with any visible files are my save game files. How can I mod my game if I can't see my files?

Can someone please help me figure out what to do? It is probably very simple and obvious, but I am not very computer literate, and my modding ability is very limited. I have played a lot of games by Paradox Interactive (which are among the easiest games to mod) and even then I can barely mod anything. So all the help I can get (both in finding my files, and then in modding them) would be greatly appreciated.:king:

You are looking in the wrong folder.

The game files are no located in .../My Documents/My Games/...

You need to go to c:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/Civilization 4/...

There you will find the assets folder. Don't ask me though what specifically you need to look for and how to change it to what you want :)

Word of caution though. Unless you like re-installing, I wouldn't alter any of the base files. Instead you can make a folder in the Mods directory, and copy the files you are interested in changing, and make your edits there. When you are ready to test, just load the game, then go to advanced under options and you can load your mod.

This way the base game is preserved.

Thankyou for your help!:king:

EDIT: I just checked in my C directory. There is no Firaxis Games folder. Where else should I look?

For some odd reason, it was under "Documents and Settings" in the folder "Application Data".

Now that I've found the files, I could use some help with modding them. If this isn't the right place to ask, could someone point to it?
