Playing Civ3 Vanilla, unpatched (v1.07f).

Found that if I try to load a save, I get an IODataCity error. File won't load. I tracked it back when I sink an Aztec galley that happens to hold a settler that is all that the Aztecs have left. Once the file did open, but there were no cities on the map (units, resources, etc) were still there. I can play and save without the file being apparently corrupted if I leave the Aztec galley, which no longer moves. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the quick response. I guess that means I can't sink the galley or I have to go back to an earlier save and play around it.

sure enough. read thru the patch updates and there it was. really appreciate it:thumbsup: , now i won't worry about trying to reinstall.

If you patch, I don't think you can finish your game.

If you really want to get rid of them and continue your game, gift them a city. Take out the settler/galley, and then recapture the city.

After this game, then patch it to 1.29f.

Turner - an excellent suggestion about gifting, unfortunately I already went back and replayed that portion (I was concerned that it was too gummed up). Probably cost me a three or four hours of game time, but i really like this start. I think I fared a little better this time anyway. I never even considered patching and continuing.

Again, I really appreciate the prompt replies and suggestions!!!

Thanks again,

rick
