OK..am I missing smething here? I have played numerous times and have never encountered this until I read the manual. Is this something like the Heroic Epic?..I have never used leader to get that..I always use them to build wonders...but this Iron Works thing looks like it has some benefits. So, how do I get it? The manual blows if you really sit down and read it. There are soo many mistakes and no explanations for a lot of things..oh well.

Iron Works can only be built in a city that has *both* iron and coal in it's immediate borders. That is, not that it has a supply road for another city or colony that has iron or coal -- but the Iron and Coal are both in it's direct radius.

Given the relatively random distribution of iron and coal resources, it's pretty easy to have a game where there simply aren't any cities where this occurs.

If you do have the chance to built it, it's pretty cool. I wouldn't waste a leader rushing it, but I currently have a city that's generating nearly 200 shields and it doesn't even have a power plant yet! :) When I build the Hoover Dam and a Manufacturing Center in that city... watch out :)

thanks Flynn! I wish the manual was more clear.

Oh well..that is what this site is about..thanks for clearing this up for me.

Thanks again,
Sam

200 shields!? That's a lot! I've been thinking about trying to make the perfect city for shields and science and making a scenario about the perfect science cities vs. the perfect shield cities. It's pretty interesting to see the maximum of both.

WOAH!! 200 shields.... thats nutty! :crazyeyes  , so the Iron works increasing production??

Hopefully, the attached will work. I went to a party tonight, so I'm too many glasses of Shiraz into the party to answer in detail, but perhaps you'll get an idea from my save file.

*hic*

:)

No further alcohol-induced comments attached...

200 shields is nothing, especially compared to getting a city with Iron & Coal. Only 2 times I ever got that, they were in corrupt 1-shield/1-gold cities. But if you ever do get it, seriously consider relocating one of your Palaces to better exploit it. Heck, settle a new city just to get it and worker-populate it. Such an economic powerhouse just screams of "Space Race".
