I was reading through "Rookie vs. Pro" and started wondering if anyone is up to teaching someone how to actually win the game. My highest score is 3%, and that's against AI's on the easiest setting.

Well.....Civ2 isn't a game that can be taught. You have to develop your own on strategy and style. You can read and preform different strategies but it's best to combine them to develop your own.

Now....if your having trouble with the game, like shortcut keys, etc..then ask away.

But I have a way you can break that 3%!!! http://forums.civfanatics.com/Forum14/HTML/000011.html#7 http://forums.civfanatics.com/Forum14/HTML/000011.html#12 http://forums.civfanatics.com/Forum14/HTML/000011.html#13
(They all link to the same topic.)

But really....besides for that trick...my best score is only 67%.

Actually CornMaster I've taught lots of people. One of them went from an average player to number 2 in gameleague with in little over a week. However you have to have saw raw skill and talent. 3% is just too beginnerish.

Although my gaming style will never resemble that of ol' Eyes, I do have to admit that playing a few games with him taught me a thing or two......

Yeah......I've learned a lot about City Placement, and improvments in Multiplayer games. Most of them with Berzerker. He's tough if you let him grow.

But what I meant is that its hard to sit down with someone and teach them to play the game. You can teach strategy and the key strokes but it's pratice that's most important. Also chatter in Multiplayer games will help you get pointers as well!!

Certain fundamentals can be taught; but since each game is different, you have to "go with the flow".

I have a whole program I've developed. It's more than just giving tips, it's a whole class. Maybe I'll start giving lessons. hehehe

ok..Eyes... I am willing to be taught... any game you say ? Test of Time ... Fantasy World ... 4 human players... all 7 Races... x1... 50x80 map... King level... Hordes.. chat from start.

or if you prefer, we can play some East Front 2 & I can teach you a thing or two.

P.S. ... if you can't find 2 others, I can round them up. Oh.. also you get your choice of which race you want ... at the start.

I don't play TOT, I play civ2 gold. And I teach on the 2x2x setting, not 1x1x. If you can play 2x2x then you can play 1x1x, but if you learn on 1x1x then you'd have to learn 2x2x also.

That's not correct.
2x production makes a big difference, food is not a concern for example.
Diplomats, and all else, cover ground at greater rate in 2x moves.
Exactly opposite is true, if you can play 1x successfully, 2x is a breeze.

Well ... I don't have MGE...saw it at the store the other day & am kicking myself for not buying it then. The only thing I can say about x1 vs. x2 is that it separates the sheep from the goats rather quickly ( or the lucky from the unlucky ) ... altho I do like x2 movement for war purposes. Unfortunately, in TOT it exaggerrates the normal IP glitchyness.

Playing x2 resources is rather like playing Poker with a deck full of Jokers, or preferring a gallon of cheap Muscatel to a glass of fine Merlot.

That's ok for some... but I pass on that if possible.

Next move is yours..Eyes.

Oh give me a break. 1x1x is ridiculously easy. I think I know a little bit more about this than you sloww.

That was such a stupid statement I don't think I need to even go through the trouble of insulting you Hier.

Yes I agree with eyes on that.....

there are what 87-88 techs?
How many turns are there between 4000 and 1000 bc? 15-25 or so? I'm not sure, but you'd have to get about 3 or 4 techs per turn. Now that would be a nice trick

Why do people have to claim ridiculous crap they can't back up?

Eyes claims ridiculous crap but the thing is, he CAN back it up.......

Actually,I think it could be done. There are way more turns to work with.It would be tough.I once had spaceflight in 1300bc in a 1x OCC on cheiftain so maybe.2x prince....ALL techs might be a stretch.
What is it?cheiftain>warlord>prince?..level 3 thats 4 contented citizens and no riot factor to speak of.I think on 2x production it would be relatively easy against the ai.

Maybe I'll have go at 1x and see....

it can be done on deity with one of those all river maps but thats not we mean here is it?
