Is LAN play working normally yet?

I have spent a lot of time, playing CivIV with my husband and son. In order to play LAN, I purchased 3 boxes of CivIV, 3 boxes of Warlords, 3 boxes of BtS (so it must cost me around 400 USD in total, especially because the latter was not yet available in my country and I had to ask a friend in US to purchase BtS and mail me). Lately I mainly play Fall from Heaven II - either single or with my husband. (My son more tends to WoW and similar games now)

Last week my DS showed me CivV on his computer (I am sure I do not want to know where he got it). I tried to play single game and there was a feeling like I was 15 years ago playing CivI - I had to wait for things to happen all the time. In CivIV (I always play huge maps) there is a wait between turns, especially MP on , but it is nothing to this. The son's computer is Athlon IIx4 with 6GB RAM, windows 7 home.
I am afraid to purchase my 2 boxes of Civ5 yet, because my laptop is only Intel Centrino RAM 2GB with Nvidia 6something graphic card of 500MB and husbands computer is Dual core 4GB RAM with Nvidia 8xxx (do not remember) 1GB video card. Both are WinXP.

My question is - will Civ5 (LAN MP) work on those older computers or will it be so frustrating that I should wait with my 2 box purchase?

LAN should work fine on those machines (just be sure to have the most powerful one host- not that you needed the reminder :)). As for the delay- yeah, Civ V takes a looooong time to do anything even on super-high-end machines. Part of the problem, I think, is that most people run it in DX9 even if they can do it it DX10/11, simply because DX10/11 crashes to the desktop after about 30 mins.
