Is that a bug?

I was playing Civ II multiplayer Gold today and i noticed a strange bug that i've nevr noticed before.

The Japanese contacted ME and asked for a cease fire. I accepted and then asked for a peace treaty. They said "Very well but only if you declare war on our enemies the spanish". However the dialog box didn't present me with the radio buttons "yes" or "no".... Just the button "OK" or whatever it is... (not sure if it was OK or Continue but either way it didn't give me a chance to answer their question). Upon pressing the button they took my answer to be NO and I didn't get my peace treaty. :(

This has happened twice before in this same game... has anybody else ever seen this?

(by the way i have the latest patch plus the no limits patch)

If you happen to have the save we could see if it happens for other people.

But, no, I don't ever remember hearing of it happening before.

I do have it saved - but not anywhere near that specific point in the game. :(

It might only be this specific game because I'm not sure I ever remember it before... strange...

"Very well. But you must prove your worthiness
by declaring war on our hated enemies the %STRING4."

"You go too far, friend."
"So be it! We will gladly crush the %STRING4 for you!"

Is it this one you're looking for?

When I translated the civ-files, it happened that I made mistakes like forgetting to press enter or forget to write one of the alternatives. In the game this showed as odd alternatives or just questions with only one option.

So if you recently made any changes in your game file, you might have to check if it looks okay. Or see if you can replace it with the original.:)

That's the one. But I've never made any changes to the game files (besides the patches). I'll have a look at that file though and see what I see.

Thanks!

Follow Up: I just checked that file and there was TWO blank lines between the end of the question and the beginning of the two choices. Everything else has only one blank line. Not sure if that was the problem but I guess time will tell.

That game.txt file came in the "no limits patch" so it appears as if thats where the problem came from.

Thanks again!

I've also noticed that spies and diplomats are stealing techs from me left right and center without offering me the chance to break the treaty!! (it just says "Chinese Steal Combustion" or whatever and then never presents me with the screen telling me I have a valid pretext for war)

Is this suppossed to happen?

I wonder what's wrong with my game - i've installed the patches and then the no limits patch.

Maybe I should do a reinstall and download the patches all over again

Make sure you are getting the latest version of the no-limits patch, there are some errors in the earlier versions that I tried to use bringing up similar situations. Unfortunately I no longer have a link to the german site where JB uploads his latest version to but the version here and at Apolyton shouldn't be that far behind.

Hmm.. Looks like i got my version of the patch from THIS site and thats the version that seems to have the problem with the game.txt file. (October 2000)

Does anybody know where I could find the latest version of this patch?
