I've never seen the trade advisor happy, so I decided to do a small test scenario to check out if she ever smiles. I added all the strategical and luxury resources to one civilization (Rome) and also gave Rome all the techs. The result you can see in the attached picture. I also attached the scenario if someone wants to check it out (it's Vanilla Civ III).

You're absolutely right- she's NEVER happy. Reminds me of people in my own country who are never satisfied no matter how much you give them.

Welcome to Civ 3! :band:

It's a LOT tougher than Civ 2. Since I would routinely wax/ annihilate the computer on Deity level in Civ 2, I assumed that with Civ 3, I could just drop down two levels to Monarch, learn the mechanics of Civ 3, and work my way back up to Deity or higher. Wrong! The game used me as a floor mop the first 12 or so times on Monarch. After I had won a few Monarch games, I found this forum and read the entire War Academy. It made me a much better player, able to compete at Emperor level.

Thanks for the welcome :D I have already got a lot of help from this forum. I'm actually playing Deity-level and learning more stuff all the time. I know I will eventually beat Deity, it's just a matter of time :)

I discovered this 2 years ago. You can have every luxury on the planet and the trade advisor will still want more.

I've seen the Trade Advisor happy -- open her window before you have any resources connected at all. The first time you open the window, she's happy, but then changes to a sad face and never changes back.

The culture advisore is rarely(never) happy too. If you dont have all the cul. buildings in all your cities, she will tell you to build them, and if you do, she will tell you to research new tech that give you cul. buildings (even if you researched everithing).

Gotta treat her right.

To be honest, she came up with that super-furious face ("I'm not even supposed to be here today") shortly after that.

^lol@that.

In Vanilla your science advisor would always say "we need to spend more money on science" or whatever, even when the slider was on 100% science. I personally don't mind those advisors too much...

I have a theory on why the trade advisor is so happy. This may sound stupid but im just throwing it out there. One night the developing team over at firaxis asked one of its disgruntled workers to stay overtime to work on the advisor screen. In order to seek their revenge the trade advisor is now as upset as the developer that created it. lol

"I'm not even supposed to be here today" ?

Is that another "easter egg" like the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy quote in the terrain graphics file (I think its that one)? Its a quote from Clerks (a very funny film by Kevin Smith).

I alos got that "I'm not even supposed to be here today" message. I took a picture of it but I don't know how to get it on the site.

Reading this very old thread I couldn't find anyone that tested the theory but with actual... erm... trades in operation. She wants you to acquire more resources not for the sake of it! (though she might, I haven't tested it, just seems like an odd way to test the issue of making a trade advisor happy but without activating any... trades).

Hmm, this one I will have to check out. At times, I do manage to get Sid, the Science Advisor, happy.
