Is there a way to "demolish" mountains?

Unless you want to use a civ with a mountain-related bonus (Carthage or Inca), you're helpless. Or you could wait till you get helicopters, then sit on them all day...

Why demolish mountains? As in real life they make attacking cities harder because you can't walk over them. (Well, except for Carthage...) They're also required for Machu Picchu and Neushcwanstein - which I think is a pretty useful wonder.

nope... it would be cool if discovering dynamite allowed workers to turn a mountain into a hill, though. (or create roads through mountains at least).

they're nice bottleneck against an opposing civ, but a bit of a burden when you're on the other side of that.

You would need about 8000 tonnes of TNT to blow up a mountain. Consider this a mountain range, and you would need more than 12.5 million tonnes of TNT. So changing a mountain to a hill to not plausible (it is in CiV when using IGE or WorldBuilder). Maybe you can make a mod that allows worker to change mountains into a hill or instead of that, maybe Firaxis should just implement the ability to build railroads through mountains
