Is there a way to record what is on the TV other than using a camera? I was wondering because I was thinking it might be interesting to make a tutorial for a video game but the only way I know of is to use a digital camera and that doesn't work very well. I would like to record both video and audio and be able to play it using windows media player and also be able to upload it to youtube. If I would need some sort of special equiptment, how much would it cost? Thanks
PS I have an old movie and the audio and video are off (you see something then 3 seconds later you hear it). Could I use this technique to fix the movie? (the move is legit. It is NOT a pirated copy)
PS I have a bunch of old VHS movies but our VHS player is beggining to break. I would like to be able to move the movies onto either a DVD or a USB jump drive, how do I do this.
Thanks again for all your help.

The easiest way would probably be an AV capture card. You wont need one with a tv-tuner, which makes it even cheaper. A TV-tuner with composite video input will work. This will solve the first and 3rd problems you have.

For the movie where the sound is off, what format is it in (digital file only, DVD, VHS...)?
If its the first, then you can use a movie editor to shift the sound, if its the latter two, then its either your player, or it's encoded like that.

The movie is a DVD It is actully an eposode of an old TV show and the eposodes before and after it are just fine. I've played it on both my TV's DVD player and my computer's DVD player and the problem doesn't change.

What is an AV capture card and where would I get one?

Then its just badly encoded and there's pretty much nothing you can do.

Audio/Video Capture card. Most often they come in the form of TV Tuner cards. You can get them at pretty much any computer hardware store: Newegg.com, Amazon, Fry's Electronics, etc...
