Is there an era to play after Modern age? Hints from what we saw in the streams

Yes, world war is triggered by players' attempts to win the Domination Legacy by conquering cities of opposing ideologies. That's not the same as "declaring war on you because you're winning."
Something tells me that the differing ideologies will trigger hostilities even outside of the Domination Legacy. And it will be a matter of cold AI numbers: overly negative modifiers from different ideologies > denouncements and sanctions thrown around > AIs check military power/score > go to war > allies are forced to join or break the alliance > world war

Yes, but what I'm objecting to isn't the war (as long as I can turtle). Just the AI going to war against me for metagame reasons.

Having an increasing tension based on age progress could work (any player approaching the win... or just time) makes all players get bonuses for going to war... except with their strong allies.

What we don’t know is how this plays out. Does the Modern Era end, and then every player must compete to achieve a victory before the other players? Can players who did not yet complete a track still outcompete their rivals and complete the victory first?

So no, I don’t think this indicates there is a whole new age (with all the units and civs such a thing would require). Rather, there may be an endgame period where you can lob nukes at eachother while someone desperately tries to build the World Bank.

This!
You said it better than me.

I am also unsure about the "4th age" (I don't think it will be a full age with new civs and stuff - eventually a short tech and civic tree, but I am also unsure about this).

My point is that there is something beyond modern: a "final crisis"? an "endgame period"? I don't know, but I think that the chances that there is something are not zero.

I agree, and I think there is likely some surprise that is meant to jostle the holdouts into buying the game, and boost interest right before release.
