Is there an in game log?

Unfortunately the word log is too short to search for.

I'm getting kind of lost as more things happen in the game and I can't find a button to show the message log. Is this missing or am I just blind and can't find it?

There is no notification log.

Too bad. I don't like to miss the notifications that appear in the top part of the screen, but sometimes they disappear before I can read them. Although for the most part they aren't terribly important. But I do like to keep tabs on the AI.

Update: I noticed the "gossip" which appear to be most of the popups appear in the appropriate leaders diplomacy window when you bring it up.
