Is there any way to record and replay Civ 4 games?

When I win the game (which I always do), I see the screen where I can watch the game in chronological order...

I wanted to know if I could record the game so that others could replay it (sort of like WC3 replays)... I believe those things are really valuable to the community, and the reason I am posting this now because I just had a game where..

1) I started in tundra on the very edge of the map as Mali

2) My oponents all hard horses, iron, and copper, all around their cities. All I had was tundra and a crab.

3) By the time ADs came, I've aready captured 4 cities of 4 my oponents, and a capital of one of them. (this was a small map)

It was really a beatuy, a skillful demonstration of great harrassement skills, very skilled and thought-out chopping, and just generally skillfull balancing while leading 4 wars simultaneously.

After all, I am the SuperPro

What if you didn't finish the game - how do you replay it then?

I guess by retiring? Still, how does one replay it and watch it "real time"?

There is no option to record and load real replays. The "replay" that is already in the game is that weak minimap rendition of the game where you see blobs of color grow.

It would be very very appreciated if there could be a feature of actually looking at replays of the game in real time with a "previous move, next move" control panel, maybe in a future expansion. It would really help developing strategies for people trying to tweak aspects of their game.

yeah definitely, but all you get to see is Firaxi's middle finger.

Are you for real?

Thanks, but I'll pass.

maybe try some of the programs that FPS players use? There's one that's real popular (I forget what it's called! is it FRAPS?).

good idea, btw.

And pass ye shall, since only The one and only SuperPro is capable of leading 4 wars at once.

Something like FRAPs records real-time and I seriously doubt anyone would want to watch a 6+ hour Civ game unfold, even when it's by a self proclaimed "SuperPro" (thanks for the laugh, by the way).

Although, when you play on Settler and tweak the game settings to make the game a joke I suppose the game can be over much quicker.

Yeah I was looking for something where the player can press a button to move onto the next move you made.

Wuuld probably take a lot of HDD-Mem to accomplish,
after all the Replay would have to contain all the moves made by you and all the moves made by the AIs (or at least all the moves visible to you) as well as all the units built by you and the AIs for all of the turns of the game.

It would also increase the size of the savegames considerably as they, as well, would have to contain all of the things mentioned above for all turns till the turn where you saved your game.

Would probably also negatively affect gameplay (make it slower) as everytime you click on "Next turn" the game engine would have to convert all the moves/productions etc. (see above) which were made by yourself and the AI into a data format which would enable a replay and store the data into a temporary file.

Who cares, it can be done, but Firaxis is packing the $$$ and laughing really hard.
