I started my first game as the Archosian the other day. I normally don't play civilizations that can't build libraries because I'm more of a builder, but the spider mechanic seemed awesome enough to get me to try this civ. I try out Corane because I like minor leaders and the Spiderkin trait seemed good. Anyways, the game was decided before turn 100.
By turn 40, I had 3-4 giant spiders roaming around, and by turn 50, I had my first spider swarm. That first swarm allowed me to take out my nearest neighbor, and it generated me enough giant spiders that I was able to generate quite a few more spider swarms by turn 60. By turn 75, I had 5 or so spider swarms roaming around with 10+ giant spiders. If this game hadn't been on a Huge hemisphere map with 3 continents the game would have been over very quickly. Giant spiders aren't much of a threat to cities unless they have a few promotions, but a single spider swarm can steamroll over warrior defended cities very easily.I like the spider mechanic of the Archos, but being able to acquire spider swarms before most civilizations acquire axemen seems a little overpowered to me.
