Issues running CTP2 in Windows XP

So, my problem is thus: I installed CTP2 without issue. Ran fine and everything. The problem is that whenever I go to launch it I get the following error message: "The application failed to initialize properly (oxc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application." There are two of these message boxes to click through. I've tried patching the game, using various combinations of compatibility mode, etc. I cannot for the life of me understand what the issue is. From my searches on Google (which admittedly turned up precious little) it seems that there are others who run the game just fine in XP without issue. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
