Issues with Civilization IV Complete

I just installed Civ IV complete on my Vista laptop (I meet the minimum requirements and I'm in the recommended requirements range), and when I go to run Beyond the Sword to play the game, it's very buggy.
Lots of sound issues
Lots of video issues.
Same with Civ IV Colonization, but Warlords and Civ IV from the disk are fine. I tried to update to patch 3.19 and 1.01 on Civ Col and after I attempt to update, it quits the game (Like it says it's to do) but then it doesn't patch it.

What's the issue?

This is a common problem, the 3.19 patch does not work if you use the in-game updater. Download the patch outside of the game and when you run it right-click on it and choose run as administrator. I don't know about colonization but I would also try to download and run the patch as administrator.

Hopefully patching will solve the problems. If not you will need to give more details of the actual errors and post your dxdiag file.

I'm trying the 3.17 and 3.19 downloads now, hopefully this will work this time.

I just updated it, I ran a game, it runs.
But the audio and video problems in the beginning (ie, beginning cinematic, music at main screen), still persist.

Both your video and sound drivers are very old. Try updating them. My Acer Aspire updates these through Windows update quite happily. Is there a reason you have not updated Vista?

I've tried updating it both via Vista Update and through a manual update...but it won't update...
