One of the last GOTM results puzzled me ... someone won in 2050 with a Histographic win but their Jason score was much higher than their Firaxis score.

I thought the main difference between the scores was that the Jason score compensates you for not playing the game out to 2050, so how can you have a higher Jason than Firaxis for a Histographic, or for that matter, any game that ends at 2050 (I know that's happened before)?

The Jason score also normalizes the Firaxis score by 10000/MaxScore.
MaxScore is calculated from difficulty level and map features.
The idea is to have the best Jason scores always in the 10000 range, though the Firaxis score will vary largely between different games (mainly due to difficulty multiplier and available land area).
In GOTM 44 MaxScore was only 3475 due to the low difficulty, so the Firaxis score gets multiplied by a factor of nearly 3.

Ah..that explains it. I knew there had to be a logical explanation. Thanks.

I do not pretend that I understand how exactly Jason score works, but it does surprise me frequently.

For example, in the mentioned GOTM44, Erudine who finished 160 years earlier than me with Firaxis score higher than mine by more than 100 points has fewer Jason points.

I guess it is because my base score was higher, but it still looks strange.
