Judicial Debates: Term 6

These are the questions for the Judicial branch (Chief Justice, Public Defender, Judge Advocate). All candidates are asked to post their answers to the following questions. Please, one post per person, and no discussion.

• A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?
  
• What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
  If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?

• Question for younger candidates: Hypothetical Situation - You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do? A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time; or B- Let your grades plummet and continue on with the demogame.
  
• Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.
  
• Do you believe our Three Books (Constitution, Code of Laws, Code of Standards) are fine as they are, need a few tweaks, or are they in need of a major overhaul? Should they be scrapped and started anew?
  
• Do you have any leaves of absence planned within the next term?
  
• Do you believe Fanatika is on the road to victory, or are we dangling on the edge of defeat?
  
• What do you think the importance of your position is in the grand scheme of Fanatika?
  
• The industrial age is upon us. How will you aid in the industrialization efforts? (workers, build queues, techs, trades etc.)
  
• What's more important? Economy, infrastructure, or military buildup? And why?
  
• If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
  
• Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

JUDICIARY

• If you were in the role of Judge Advocate or Public Defender, and you found that your personal views conflicted with those responsibilities of your job, (for example, defending someone you feel is guilty), how would you deal with that?
  
• Do you feel it is the Judiciary's responsibility, or right, to create new laws out of existing legislation?
  
• What do you feel the role of the Judiciary should be in the Demo Game?
  
• Will you be available at the turnchats for judical questions and poll-related questioning?
  
• What is your opinion on Public Investigations? Should they be called at every breach of the law, or should they only be used in situations where harm may be done to the game or citizen's rights?

I believe the turn chats are effective as they currently are, as long as a substantial number of citizens and cabinet members are present IE: at least 4 cabinet members or a representative whose wishes reflect those of the Department, and of course, the citizens. I do however think that forum dicusiion is more important then spot votes, as there are chat regulars who are always present, who may skew the vote.

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?

In the last demogame, I was one of the original members of the game, I finished second place in the very first election in ALL the demogamnes, the election for province 1, which I lost (proudly) to a great and noble person (Skilord). I was chat representative for foreign affairs for 2 terms in the first demogame, as well as 1 term as deput foreign affairs advisor. Additionally, I wrote the original draft of the thread "What is the demogame" and served as senior Councilmember in the first demogame for 1 term. I was also mayor of Khatovar. In the first demogame I named a city (Callisto) and if another opportunity should arise, I would name the city Sycorax.

Indeed I am, as having played the demogame before the constituion was written, I have knowledge of the intention of the laws and how they were envisioned to function.

Absolutely, always. I am against anyone who would willfully disobey the laws and will seek the maximum reasonable penalty for offenders, it suits the position I wish to have (Judge Advocate) well.

Not a problem, as I have 2 courses next semester which will allow me ample time to read the forums and maintain my 85% average.

[*]Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

I have no opponenets (unless Ek decides to run) if he does run I have no idea. Prehaps my willingness to pursue justice no matter who may be the offender?

[*]Do you believe our Three Books (Constitution, Code of Laws, Code of Standards) are fine as they are, need a few tweaks, or are they in need of a major overhaul? Should they be scrapped and started anew?

They are in need of a few tweaks, for example, I wish to ament the punishments for those who violate the code of standards, I find a warning or no-warning to be a failure to enforce the rules of the CoS effectively.

No. Maybe on my birthday (February 9th) for the evening.

I hope to bring stability to the judiciary.

by ensuring all governors, and cabinet members make decisions which are in the interests of the people, and failure to do so will result in an investigation, no matter what my personal feelings are toward them. It is important to add that the Judge Advocate office MUST remain impartial when Private Investigations are conducted, I indend to do this.

Economy, without which we cannot wage war, nor can we improve the nation.

JUDICIARY

• If you were in the role of Judge Advocate or Public Defender, and you found that your personal views conflicted with those responsibilities of your job, (for example, defending someone you feel is guilty), how would you deal with that?
  
  I would do my utmost to ensure my personal feelings have no part in my decisions. If it becomes impossible, I pledge to resign my position. Accountability and Stability for the Judge Advocate position in this coming term is my goal.
  
• Do you feel it is the Judiciary's responsibility, or right, to create new laws out of existing legislation?
  
  With substantial imput from the people, prehaps.
  
• What do you feel the role of the Judiciary should be in the Demo Game?
  
  To punish those who go against the will of the people, and punish those who break the rules of the people. And to ensure those innocent of breaking the rules are provided due-process so their innocence can be discovered.
  
• Will you be available at the turnchats for judical questions and poll-related questioning?
  
  Absolutely.

  Every breach of law should have a Public Investigation, we cannot discriminate on some laws while enforcing others to suit our personal motivations.

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

I think turn-chats are an excellent way to run the game and give the citizens a chance to have thier voices heard. I feel turn-chats should continue as is, as the system is not very flawed. After all, if it ain't broken don't fix it.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?


I was the Public Defender in Term 3 and the Judge Advocate in Terms 4 and 5. As you can see, my experience on both sides of the Judiciary makes me highly qualified for this position.
I have already named a city, but if I were to name another one, I would name it Greenbrae.

Are you familliar with all of our laws?

Three terms on the Judiciary has made them extremely familiar to me.

Do you abide by them?

I try my best to abide by the laws of the land.

Question for younger candidates: Hypothetical Situation - You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do? A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time; or B- Let your grades plummet and continue on with the demogame.

I would A- Study harder. Although the DG is very important, real life priorities come first.

Explain in one sentence why the citizens should vote for you instead of your opponents.

I am a responsible, hard-working, experienced advocate of the people.
Note- Unless Eklektikos decides to run I have no one running against me.

Do you believe our Three Books (Constitution, Code of Laws, Code of Standards) are fine as they are, need a few tweaks, or are they in need of a major overhaul? Should they be scrapped and started anew?

I believe the Three Books are pretty good, although there are still a few things that need to be smoothed out. If elected, I will make the fixing up of the three books one of my top priorities.

Do you have any leaves of absence planned within the next term?

I will be on vacation from Sunday February 14 to Friday February 19th. Hopefully I will have internet acess, although it is not guaranteed.

Do you believe Fanatika is on the road to victory, or are we dangling on the edge of defeat?

We have had some scares, but we are definitely on the road to victory.

What do you think the importance of your position is in the grand scheme of Fanatika?

I will seek to bring fair and equal justice to the people of Fanatika and make sure that the laws of Fanatika are respected and enforced on the road to victory.

The industrial age is upon us. How will you aid in the industrialization efforts? (workers, build queues, techs, trades etc.)

I will make sure that all aspects of the game move smoothly and will aid others whenever necessary.

What's more important? Economy, infrastructure, or military buildup? And why?

Definitely economy and infrastructure. Without that we could not have a military buildup and would be crushed quickly. We need the economy and infrastructure to support our nation's growing military and city improvements.

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

I feel comforatable playing at an Emporer level in this game.

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Yes, and I also have PTW patched to 1.14f.

JUDICIARY

If you were in the role of Judge Advocate or Public Defender, and you found that your personal views conflicted with those responsibilities of your job, (for example, defending someone you feel is guilty), how would you deal with that?

I believe that the responsibilities of the job take priority over personal feelings in cases like this. An example from when I was Public Defender: Shaitan was accused of sidestepping some rules in a hazy area of the laws. Although I disapproved of what he did, I sucessfully defended him.

Do you feel it is the Judiciary's responsibility, or right, to create new laws out of existing legislation?

Absolutely not. I believe it is the people's responsibility to create new laws. However, I think that someone from the Judiciary should be able to make laws independently.

What do you feel the role of the Judiciary should be in the Demo Game?

To provide fair and equal justice to all the people of Fanatika and to make sure all rules and regulations are carried out.

Will you be available at the turnchats for judical questions and poll-related questioning?

Depending on when the turn-chats are scheduled. I will most likely to be able to make one turn-chat a week if not more.

What is your opinion on Public Investigations? Should they be called at every breach of the law, or should they only be used in situations where harm may be done to the game or citizen's rights?

I believe any major law breaking should be called for PI, but little regulations (Example: Shaitan posted election polls one day early for Term 5) shouldn't be called, or else all hell would break loose and the position of Judge Advocate would be dreaded.
